Thread: Pikeman or Fencer?

Hey everyone. I love melee to death and I'm caught between 2 different worlds. There is the world of the fencer, who has crazy dodge and speed and hits things with little sticks. Swords aren't even that impressive for this profession; and Pikeman, who are rare in numbers (except now because of the holo-pikes). Pikeman have serious HAM issues as well as accuracy, but when they do hit, I like the numbers that appear over the MOB's head. I'm having terrible difficulty with this choice and i would like as much input from experienced warriors.

You could go both. I am a master pikeman and will probably get 1 or 2 of the trees in fencer for the crazy dodge and defences....

Hi there I can help you... I also love Melee to death, my favorite too also being Pikeman and Fencer...



You will commonly hear that heavy swordsman is better for the dish much more dmg... and pike well u hit it right lol.... they say fencers got speed but no dmg... THAT IS BULL!!



I have freinds who r master Fencer and we hunted in Ft. Tusken together.. anyway we had pikeman (just me) fencers heavy sword and Terasi Kasi the most... well the fencers were THE ONLY people giving Terrasi Kasi a run for their money.. heavy sword rocked dmg thats true, but the fencer had the best of both worlds... these fencers used those gafi stick lookings thinga with VERY impressive stats....



If i ditch pikeman I'd do FENCER hands down! Fencers attacks r fun to watch too... As for Pikeman its MUCH better when u get toward master.. but even then with my FAST pike anything that hits me you just stumble around then u dont swing at all! As for Teras kasi... lame my maser TKM freinds agreed that in a duel with 2 master Teras Kasi guys its not about skill anymore but rather who hits Knock down and spams dizy then spaming hit 3 first wins! I watched 23 duels one night when we were bored... and it was ALWAYS who got kd/dizy/hit3 first ... fencer is beautiful! If you want to be a pikeman get stances anddefenseive tres first, speed will help a ton.... I have a 500dmg pike and thought i'd own but i dont!! When I do hit I can take out half and more then half of someones ENTIRE health ham bar... but with this weapon I NEVER WON A DUEL! Because it was simply to slow at 4.4 speed (combined with broken profession) then i got a 370dmg pike got a speed slice to 3.5.... all of a sudden IM WINNING DUELS!! The speed worked emensly! I thought it'd be too low dmg but not the case! My 500dmg pike rocks in groups hunting etc but whats 500 dmg if u can swing to get ur target, ur kd'ed or dead before u get 2 hits in! So get something fast...



Anyway Fencer and Pikeman are my favorite... if you obsessed with pike like me do it and love it...if u do email me at [email protected] ill give u some awsome tips.. however if you want something just as cool that works and you can have fun and be happier with fencer is what your looking for!




Hope this helps! Sorry to rant, I enjoy this topic... ohh and btw... I always did much better in duels against heavy swordsmen than Fencers!! Including one against a near master when I was novice pike with 2 skills.....

Maybe a strange question to ask in a fencer forum but...) Until yesterday my plans were to master TKA, sword and fencer, but after looking at the fencer tree I began to doubt its usefulness. My major concerns are:


* Why choose master fencer (I'm going to get TKM and master sword) instead of doing some branches in pikeman getting both intimidate and improved warcry? Or maybesome pikeman (0040) and even some medic (0040).


* What is it that a master fencer have today that could make fencer better in my setup than a "half-done" pikeman and medic?


* I've tried advanced bleeding strike, but I'm sorry to say it's really not so good. I'm now looking at crippling strike, wondering if it's worth a shot to try it out. Does this attack slow the enemies down? Or is it a normal attack hit doing the same damage as for example the swordsmans improved head hit?


Any ideas and suggestions are welcome.

everything you ask has been answered before try looking around this forums for more info but,


Pikeman seems a bit unnessasary, since it is a def, class. If you have tkm you should be good in the defense department.


Fencer gives you Blind attack which is exellent for dmg reduction and accuracy reduction, coupled with dizzy from tkm you become very deadly.


Bind attack allows you to reduce action regen, not sure if its broken or not but it should be very useful.


Accuracy is good in fencer along with speed, we are the fastest i think.


Post CU master boxes seem to be alot more worth it to get since they have large bonuses in them now, so I usually makes more sense to master as many as you can instead of taking trees from alot of different ones.

The answer mainly depends on how you play. I like to be extremely defensive and mitigate a lot of your damage. I am a Master TK, Master Swords. Master Fencer and Melee Defense in the Force Sensitive Tree with 0 Skill Points left. I have the highest natural defenses possible. Master Fencer box i think adds +20 to Melee Defense and +20 Ranged Defense. You do not get that with the other template. I also have exactly 4 skill points left after the triple mastery which is just enough for for the Melee Defense FS tree.


I have dueled the other templates and i generally win. I can also defend like crazy against ranged and commonly win against the Root spammers. Below are not the exact order all the time, i adjust depending on what lands and what misses but you get the general idea.


This is what i like to do.
GOOD DEFENSE: Power Boost, Center of Being, Sword Flurry,MeleeHit,Blind, Melee Strike, and Dizzy.


GOOD DAMAGE: Power Boost, Center of Being, Knock Down, Armor Break, Power Strike, Critical Strike, and then alternate between Melee hit and Melee Strike. This hurts them trust me.


RANGED: Power Boost, Center of Being, Knock Down, Bind, Blind, Dizzy and then Lunge. (you can sometimes get him down twice with this which is just wonderful. if he goes down the second time beat the crap out of him)


Make sure Center of Being is up before you start the duel, You can never allow it to do down or you are cooked.


Don't worry about healing. Here is another cool tip. Use Ruby Belial which reduces the time between stims to 30 seconds. The key is to reduce your damage to where the Stim D's can heal any damage you can take. Add food and drink in to the mix (after they are fixed) and you have a tank and then some.


And for the part that makes all this applicable to the Fencer Thread. I use a stun baton (base 250DPS) or that new Blade of Nyrethi'Oris (base 315DPS) which i love. Fencer weapons for less damage than swordsman weapons but they are faster and have a lower action cost. TK weapons are borked and cost as much, i suspect more, than the fencer weapons.


My tanking (ability to absorb damage) is higher than the hybrid templates. Having said that Pikeman are better against a group of targets but I can take a single target longer and take him down quicker than he can. Also, and inherent problem with group attacks is that your automatically aggro everyone that you damage. With the lack of real aggro control (taunt and area taunt don’t seem to work) my experience is that pikeman seem to take more damage and aggro more than they can typically handle. The whole way to beat a mob in SWG is one critter at a time.


Also the triple Mastery seems to work better in a group. Put me in a group with ranged and especially healers and this template is really deadly. My favorite groups was TK/Ranged, Triple Master, TK/Healer. We all had insane defenses.

Thank you VERY much for that info. Though I went for the doc combo and I really like it. My gf is doctor and she stands behind me and heals me all the time, this way I can take 3 lvl 82 mobs at the same time and as long as they don't attack her (in that case I do taunt, whichworks perfect for me)I feel like a god,though often my gf feels unemployed (only has to heal once in a while). And on top of this I even can heal myself (up to 600 damage) if things get really bad (and they will when I'll begin fighting really tough mobs, nightsistersand stuff).


Have a great weekend with lots of SWG *hehe* (if the devs aren't patching that is...usually they are )

fencer is great for dmg speed and all its good specials...pike is rather weak without a uber DPS weapon and the only thing its really ever used for now is Spin attacks and def.
