Not True, I am a 4,0,2,2 pikeman human, I wear no armor other than some ubese armor bracers and have no medic skills whatsoever. I do have 2,2,1,2 CH though and I can solo a lot of things. To keep the larger creatures from agroing you before your pet tell your pet to attack then stand as far back that your pole will let you, EX: you can attack pikets from 6 meters away they wont agro as long as you dont get closer than 6 meters. You should do fine

Ok I think I can help here. I picked Wookiee as my race when I first started playing SWG. Played him up untill about a month to a month and a half ago. Got killedin two or three hits from a snorbal one day and just got fed up with not being able towear armor.I deleated and rerolled as a zabrak.

Here is the deal. When i switched to Zabrak, I got myself a set of padded armor, nice stuff. I think the resist were around 35% before sliceing.

If you dont have doctor buffs, armor is the only way to go, period. Sure you can have your pets tank for you, but you will invariably get aggro sometime, and if you dont have armor, your gonna drop fast. With the upcoming patch and changes to CH your gonna be getting aggro alot more. I believe the devs have stated that the mobs will realize that it is you that is controling the pet and go after the owner alot more often instead of completely ignoring them as they do now. The other bad thing is that pets tend to warp around when fighting a mob. They will sometimes back up when the mob moves or against some mobs they attack at a greater range then you can. Either case you get aggro.

Here is an example: without armor a Longhorn Piket on Dantooine will hit me for 200+ damage a hit. Even with wookiee 1k ham your gonna drop in 4-5 hits without useing any specials.(this canchange if you land intimidate, but it will also cost you health to try it, and if it fails your in even worse shape)With good armor on they hit me for around 50+ a hit. As you can tell you last ALOT longer. (provided they dont hit you in the belt or back or eyes- these spots are bugged and count as a hit box not covered by armor so you will get hit for full damage- this is supposed to be getting fixed)

Now with Doctor buffs it's a whole nother story.

When I am buffed from a doc I rarely wear my armor. I have enough ham that I can afford to take several hits before anywhere near being incapped so i dont have to worry about spending all my time useing stims instead of attacking. Also I can use my specials with NO COST with a good strength and Quickness buff, so I can take down my opponent ALOT faster.

However, and this is what I think your friends were talking about, BIG game is just about impossible without armor. By "big game" i'm talking about Krayts, Dark Jedi, the giant dragons on Lok i cant remember the name of right now, and so on. Even with doc buffs your gonna get incapped in 1 or 2 hits without armor. The amount of damage you take per hit from BIG game is more then any doctor can keep up with. Even two docs cant keep you alive unless they time thier heals exactly right, which is **edit** near impossible (although not completely, meaning it can be done--- but good luck your gonna need it if you try this)

Now big game you pretty much need a high level pet to tank anyway so this may be a moot point, but as I stated above, youalmost inevitablypullaggro sometimes if you are a melee class.

So for normal hunting with doc buffs, wookiees do excel slightly, without doc buffs you want armor.(keep in mind this is my oppinon others may disagree)The bad thing about wookees is that you have no choice. If you decide to take on a mob that hits for 1.5k or more you had better hope you dont get aggro if you are not in some very high end armor. You can however wear a shield generator, but this is not a very viable option because the resist are not near as high as with a set of composite, and they break very fast so you better have a very large bank roll if you go this route.

Hopefully this helps, if you have any questions feel free to post and i'll check up on this thread to try and respond.

Ok,

I chose wookie, and started on the path to pikeman, was gonna be doctor also, until reading that a wookie even as a doctor would not last.

So I change to CH thinking all would be great.

Now the TKM's in my guild are second guessing my choice, saying wookies cant be brawlers cause of no armor and that I cant kill anything big without armor. They say that my pets wont help cause of the fact that creatures turn on brawlers first and not pets.

Can someone please please weigh in on this and tell me what I need to do.

I am only at polearm 4 so it may not be to late to start anew, but I really like being a wookie

i'm a wookiee swordsman, with a little ch, and i'm telling i don't use buffs often. and i've never asked or paid for them. with a gsp and my power hammer, i have killed every type of rancor there is. the extra damage wookiees seem to do out weighs the lack of armor for me. don't give up yet. i even soloed a giant dune kimo with a gsp, relax and have fun with your wookiee although with what i hear and see of pikemans acc, you might not live long enough to whip out those huge damage hits

Ok listen i'm a wookiee polearm 4 too. And Ch 2-2-1-2 I do fine with my creatures and my LVA. Just get some Bio clothing, and hunt pikets in a small group or by yourself (you can get over 3k xp just on the lair). Have fun with profession, and hopefully they will get better.

I am a wookiee pike as well currently 0 0 2 2, My favorites are Squill lairs on Tat. One lair nets me around 50k xp. A ton of them eventually spawn. I send my pet, generally one with a ranged attack. As soon as the squill or mountain squill aggroes on my pet I call it back. It brings the aggro to me but it is still attacking my pet. I order my pet to attack again, step back Actionhit1 and then spam legshot1. This takes thier action pool down fairly quickly. There have only been a couple of times where the aggro switches to me and they dont deathblow.

The regular squills give about 600 to 1000 xp but the mountain squills give 2900 to 3500 xp. The lair gives up around 3900 xp. Also take out any moutain worrt lairs around the generally take about 2 hits to kill and give 1200 to 1500 xp a piece. Thier lairs just keep spawning them. Hope this helps!

Then be a wookiee. What matters is that you like it, not some TKM.

I'm currently a 1/1/1/1 wookiee pikeman with decent medic skills and a bit of ch, and I have no regrets. Most pets can hold aggro just fine against one enemy, and if you're swarmed by high-level stuff you're in trouble regardless of race (am I the only one who routinely gets swarmed by pikets??).

It appears low-level CH is going to be less useful if and when the upcoming changes go through. Right now though a wookiee at 1/1/0/0 can use a kliknik defender, which is a very capable tank (armored, ranged attack, 7500 [I think] HAM).

Fight smart, use some strategy, and you'll be fine. Oh, and buy a bowcaster. You don't need marksman skills to use it, and it'll save you from having to chase runners halfway across the planet.

by the way, with the new tailor clothes using bioengineered tissues we get a little help. 2 of our items can have the +4 melee def tissue incorporated. So you put on these and up your melee def by 8.

Of course, the 2 items are the bandolier and the shoulderpad, so its quite a stupid look. I wear them out in the field, and change clothes to walk around town.

Wookie pikeman on Tarquinas here.
Was Master Pistoleer earlier but I must say pikeman is alot more exciting.
I die alot more now, granted, but it has less to do with me being a wookiee than the fact I was master of a ranged profession earlier. I have always played wookiees and becasue of that I really can't make any comparison between armor and non-armor. Buffs do help quite a lot though
And 850 strength is quite good for non-buffed wookiees.

Odry,
Wookiee Armorsmith, Pikeman - that has to be one of the rarer combos
(hehe *any* combo with pikeman is rare)
