Well Now we have COB and it seems to be working if not Brillantly

would the progression tree for a new Pike man like myself follow the defence path befor the stance?

im 3-1-3-3

i am alternating between stances/defense and seems to be a good way to go about it

If you usually hunt in group or use a pet to tank i think going up stances would be the best . Why??

To get exp in hunting group you need to hit fast the faster you hit the more damage you do and so the more exp you get and stances add speed. And if you are hunting with pets your pets will be soaking up your damage so why waste on defence?? Go stances first for me i use ATST to tank .

However different people have different playing style. If you don't use pets maybe going up defense first may be worth it now.

With my pikeman I pretty much solo with no pets so my plan is to go up defense first then stances. Then again I may go up to defense 2 then stances 1 then defense 4 then stances 2. Have not fully decided yet.

It is all in how you play.
