This is a good point. I have never been killed by a pikeman DOT. On the other hand, i have been decimated by DOTed rifles time and time again.
Who have you been fighting?

dots make pikeman great...... ive been a pikeman 1/2 of my time ingame (6 months) without dots i would never have been this prof....

DOTs are what make Pikeman, Pikeman... Think about it, Swordsman have the mind hit, Fencers have stun weapons, TKAs have.... everything (one hit Dizzy KD, insane toughness, etc), and Pikeman have DOTs!
Course, it's true what was said before, pistols and rifles also have DOTs, which I think should be eliminated as it takes away from our trademark. Those professions need their own trademarks to make each combat option unique.

Take away DOTS' (or nerf them severly) and dont fix pikeman in a MAJOR way, and there will bedancers kicking our ass' all around coronet....
At the moment, it is the only thing that gives us a chance. I say again, make it so only Master's can land a DOT. Right there you strengthen Pikeman immensily. Make it a matter of accuracy, if you are not a master then you cant land the thing without swinging 25 times.

No, DOTs are what make alot of people Pikemen, it's not what makes us Pikemen.

This strength, which isn't even something granted by our profession, is what is keeping us from ever getting fixed.

The only reason I hate them is that any loser who picks up a little bit of pike can use them. It's a shame that our proud profession is noted now as the FOTM for the use of DOT pikes. DOT's have allowed those with no combat skills to become even more sad in their style of fighting. Anyone who wins a pvp battle with a DOT weapon, no matter what profession they are, is not a true winner of a battle. Flame me if you want but this is my opinion on DOTS and I'm entitled to it.

As a matter of principle, I'm starting to use them less and less in PvP, simply because I'm tired of being called a DoT "whore", even if there are rifles, pistols anc carbs with stronger DoTs (not to mention the combat medic stuff, but that's a different discussion). Sure, I may not be able to do much without them, but I'd rather do it based on skill than having someone tick to death.

Hate them? No. Like them. Nope.
As far as I'm concerned (and I try to stick to using them this way) dots oughta be something like a small tactical nuke...you use 'em to split open particularly hard targets. Other stuff you can just use a normal bomb on. Personally, I've got a 300str mind fire pike that's my 'tactical nuke' to use mostly on other melee defense stackers (and sometimes if I'm outnumbered, gonna die, and just have to cause as much damage as I can to everyone possible :smileytongue
. Also have a 240str action fire that I can hit a semi-hard target with and then finish them off with leghit3...usually this'll be something like a rifleman/tkm. Anything else non-melee just sort of splits open like a thin-shelled egg when I start whacking on them with my 1160 max lva.

Anything else non-melee just sort of splits open like a thin-shelled egg when I start whacking on them with my 1160 max lva.So basically, what I despise about dots are not so much the dots themselves but the way they're used by the vast majority of dot users....just, indiscriminately spamming them at whatever you possible can, whether the target be a Jedi Knight, a hardened defense stacker, or some poor newbie who didn't even realize that he was overt. /shrug there's my thought.

I think dots are fine, because with today armor and buffs, only way you can hurt someone is if you have a stunbaton, riflemanweapon, or are a jedi.
