I used to do the same thing for the same reasons, until I noticed people buying them off the bazaar and reselling them for profit. I'll give them away to an honest player, but won't sell them to some greedy jerk.

I do put any decent non-DoT polearms I find but don't want on the bazaar, and also make a point to sell off crafted weapons of every level. It drove me nuts when I was first climbing my way to pikeman (with no other skills, no support, and no money) and I couldn't find a single basic lance on the bazaar. Had to spend my first week or so fighting with a reasonably good reinforced combat staff that a kind novice pikeman gave me for free.
