I've been pikeman twice and those two times were when pikeman wasn't all that popular but you're right, the numbers has been increasing dreamatically- but there's a few guilds that solely have xxx3 brawler in their templates just to use dot NS lances and LVAs which can make pikeman look bad. My best template with pikeman was master swords/master brawler/master pikeman/scout 4000/medic 1000 and loved my high damage lances but rarely ever used dot ones.

FS melee speed is probably part of why pikeman has gotten popular, they can definately deal out a crapload of damage once you get a 700+ dmg LVA or VL.

Yeah, the DOT-whores can cheapen the profession as a whole. I'm glad to see that others are realizing the strength of the Polearm profession, though. I do grit my teeth sometimeswhen I ask a person holding a NSL where I can get some good LVAs and they ask "What's an LVA?"

In order to use a weapon's dot you have to be certified in that weapon. At xxx3 brawler you are only able to use those two. They wont get to use the nicer NS VLs (handy electrical damage dot weapons.) Nor do they get to use the energy lances that cost an arm and a leg and a few of your closest friend's organs. Lol but so far my highest damaging dot weapon, and I'm only a novice mind you, is a 900 damage mind fire dot with 189% potency and 40 duration on my wooden staff. Talk about ironic eh? Had this baby sitting in my bank for a year and I never knew how dots worked or cared. Good thing I didn't throw this out or sell it for 5 credits like I was going to when I first got it.

When I was working on pikeman, I could not find any players to teach me. Now in the past 2 weeks I get about 3 to 4 tells everytime I'm in coronet asking for training. I became a pikeman becasue its a fun prof that I never saw people doing. Now it seems like everybody is becoming one.

Funny, I get far fewer tells now than I used to. There are more pikemen to do the teaching, so nobody feels like hopping two planets to get taught by me anymore (which never seemed very economical anyway).

IMO the devs thought "Well since we don't have the time to give the Pikemen real fixes we'll just give them a bunch of lootable DOT weapons. . . that should make them all happy"

(*sigh*)

DOT weapons may equal FOTM PvP profession but it does not equal meaningful pikeman fixes.

I agree with a previous poster. We are not "popular", our DOT lances are. If the DOT lances were to go away all of these overnight pikemen would leave as well.

However that is not to say that a bunch of pikemen is a bad thing, it was just cool to be something different.

Doctor templates have never been out. You can't beat a template with doc in it unless you have some steller mind dots. That's where pikeman comes in. The poisen/disease buffs don't do much against weapon dots. It's only natural with the power of dots to pick up pikeman along with doctor. Pikeman will continue to be the flavor of the month until dots are as useless as they should be. Since that won't happen until the combat revamp, expect to see a sh!t load of pikemen for the next few months.

Pike is FoTM, thats why i dropped it, the cost of decent looted pikes has gone insane, and FS grinding would have been too expensive. bye bye fencer/pike, hello TK/swords. im still a pikeman at heart tho, i kept the 'Pike Weaver' tag
