Thread: The Big Big Update: 9-4-03
Well all i have to say is that i have spent 2 months on this and i have got to all but two blocks form master pikeman. I was killing things with red cons lats night... NOW I have to go after things that are blue.... i can kill yellows but it is hard and i have to heal my self over and over and hope they dont use head hits! I find that i am now pointless in PVP. If i can catch up to a guy and i kd him hes up in 2-3 sec and hitting me, and i have to what 5 sec to hit him. NOW can you tell me why we even have kd its point-less now. By the way I thinkyou have to buy a new weapon that was made with lower ham my LVA has just as much ham cost as it did last night and does just as much ham damage as it did last night. I am gessing the same goes for accuracy. Some times SOE just likes to P*&^% me off!
Have to agree, after testing it out further, knockdown does nothing. No delay in attack = no reason to use it at all. All it does is make a quick visual cosmetic change.

Well what I noticed after all of this, was that even though a weapon SHOULD cause more damage than figthing without one, when PVP'ing an unarmed person you generally get only a little more damage than an unarmed. and since they attack much faster, then in effect do more damage.
and how do they fix that? by taking away knockdown and RAISING unarmed Damage!!!

Added 30 second posture change/knockdown timer. (We are simple put as - gimped or NERFED)
Decreased knockdown delay to 5 seconds. Knockdown adds a 5 second delay to your queue. (This means basically you can't hit the creature that you knockdowned...*TIMEOUT* let me get back up and we start fighting again...or while you watch me lay here...my other creature mob or player can kick your can)
Increased damage of all knockdown moves (Not enough to really make a difference on a 4k mob in PvP it isn't going to be a high amount at all anyhow)
I would like to touch base on my other 2 cents
- Creatures attack spd. is generally 2.0 I have yet to see anything different...(from my 3 pets stored)
- My best Lance I have is 2.8 spd. Even if I had my 30 Pts from skills to help that...it is lowered to what. 2.5 or if lucky a little lower...still slower than everyone else even creatures.
- My HAM compared to PvE (big difference) to PvP (just depends on skill of Opponent and if more than one)
- Damage and spd - creatures 2.0 attack spd. / damage - depends on creature...most adults 100-200/ now me - Lance spd 2.8 (If I have spd buff from skills +30 to polearm...might get 2.5 to 2.0 not sure) damage of Lance is 38-264 (avg. 38 to 500 using no specials)
- Now fighting PvE ... in a 10 second period I hit 3 times for a total of 700+ damage...washit 5 times for 400+ damage
- Results- I lived because I had healing power - however I took 40% of my total Hps in damage and thecreature fighting 700+ damage wasabout 1/3 of theirs.
- I used KD and was only awared 200+ damage as a hit...the other 2 hits were 100+ and 200+ however all of this didn't matter at the end because 2 more creatues attacked and I couldn't heal fast enough and KD only stopped the second 2 for a short time....I as a meleer had no special powers to scare the creatures away like warning shot.
- In my opinion your basically saying Hey your a warrior and we wish we had several cleric here to chain heal you as you fight....lets see this happen in SWG with Combat Medics...
- I guess I must go ahead and drop something so I can become a pistoleer and become like everyone else...or guess the next step is to become IMP and get an AT and walk around with it....or perhaps we can just include Planetside into SWG and just have a free for all
I am sure I will be back for more and more after others post their opinions as well... 2 more cents...make 4 now
The KD timer caught me a bit by surprise. I am not a big forum reader and rarely post. Pretty much I just play the game and accept whatever the DEVs throw me way. I gotta say though after I got my behind handed to me by a Trade Fed guy, when I could take out three just the day before, I had to check into this.
I really can't understand this update, they have really taken away my ability to advance. Our pike skill level costs are so high that you really have to fight very high level creatures to get any xp. Now with the knockdown timer I have to go back to fighting low-level creatures and it is going to take me forever to get to Master Pikeman.
I have only engaged in PvP once, I mean I knew the tremendous disadvantage we were at. Now with the KD timer I can gurantee you won't see me doing any PvP.
I realize since our numbers are fewer that our voices might not be heard as loudly, but dang, that doesn't mean abuse the silent minority.
I just picked up Novice Squad Leader today, so maybe I'll just start dumping my skill points there.Or maybe this is the beginning of the end of my SWG journey. I have been playing sincethe first week of release and have suffered through the inumerable bugs,Idealt with that quietly, while SOE worked them out. This I just can't deal with, they are pointedly ruining the game for alot of us now. WHAT THE HECK WERE YOU THINKING SOE!!!

defense tree and most people refer to it in defensive
terms. I use KD to stall damage to myself and allies,
as well as to make an opening when I need to flee. So
why do we complain so much when its corrected? Cause we
can't use it offensively anymore.
I'm in the trenches with all you other pikemen,
suffering with the now craptacular special moves.However, as a gamer, I have to agree with the devs. KD shouldn't be a primary offense. A little dude with a [random weapon] shouldn't be able to solo an enourmous monster. I am always suprised that my kick and swish can flatten some enourmous turtle at all.
IMO Knockdown was never the answer to giving us a chance against marksmen. It was always an inadequate
solution fraut with problems. Getting on top of them, staying on top of them, large HAM costs, small stay-down time, unreliable when it hits, poor accuracy, and so on.
There are issues way more important than this timer business. Running faster, effective HAM cost decreases, accuracy with the LVA/LVL, and more toughness are the real solutions to our plight. Those are the fixes that will give us a fighting chance.
Well Devs. You guys really screwed us. The KD was fundamental to the Pikeman. I suggest you put some thought into what you did. If I post the "why's", I'd be repeating what everyone esle has already stated.

ok.....i am nearing master pikeman, and the first thing i thought about when i got in a fight with some baz nitches on dath with this KD timer was, wow i am screwed.....So i go spend 20k on a gurreck and now i can kill the giant baz nitches again but....nice freaking PROFESSION! (sarcasm) that i have to relie on a pet to survive! It's very sad....with sweep2 i really though that this pikeman profession was fulfilling...i remember spamming sweep2 in a imp raid...and wow i thought i wasa god! It was so much fun....really all any melee especially pikeman had going for them was KD. NO WAIT WE PIKEMAN GET LEG HITS! Which is a joke cause everyone has high action pools.... I don't know people but i feel kinda useless for an almost master pikeman, shouldn't i own *edit* up?? Guess not....i should just become a commando now and do thousands of damage...

hey guys im with u all the way but heres a stray point id like to state that im sure u all know . why the heck do all are ham moves hit friggin action . yet my standard swing hits health 90% of the time . it basically makes it that the only way u can kill with ham moves is to spam them and we would be dead long before we could do that. That is one big reasons KD was so important i think i could intim , kd , do my standard swing till they hit me rinse repeat till dead. SOOOO now i have a pet today and i have to use him as my shield cause im so weak .
WHAT KINDA JOKE IS THAT WHEN A PURE MELEE LIKE MYSELF IM MASTER BRAWLER , 3/2/4/3 PIKE, 4/3/4/4 MEDIC NEEDS A PET TO TANK MOBS BECAUSE I CANT TAKE THERE HITS EVEN WITH MY INTIMIDATE 2 WHICH LANDS ONLY 1 IN 3 TRYS ..... OHHH WELL ILL STOP THERE ITS ALL BEEN SAID
I am a 1-1-4-2 pikeman.
I dueled a guild-mate tonight just for fun, he's a carbineer. We were both buffed with 'D' enhancements. I set to autofollow, as usual. So, he starts running as all ranged should, and I start to use lunge. The fight lasted 10 minutes. He wasnt doing much to my buffs, and I was always getting the "Target is out of range" msg when i did anything but lunge (which halted him for a few seconds, but by the time I was within range again, he was already up and running, so i couldnt land any action hits)
He finally wasted all of his mind pool, but the fight still lasted longer, since i couldnt hit him. Finally he made a mistake and didnt start running fast enough after one of my lunges made him kneel (for about the 20th time, lol) and I got a polearm hit 2 in, which luckily hit his mind, and ended the fight.
Point to the story is, Kiting is still a big issue. Without lunge, or KD or anything like that, we won't be able to do much. Without my buffs, I'd have died very quickly.
The proposed changes on the 'tank' command which holo made today still don't help. All it does is give us an extra 20 seconds, but still does not make it to where we can be effective in PVP.
Overall, the KD/posture change ruined our class, for now. I AGREE with this, because I really hated seeing the knockdown spam by pistoleers and such when i was watching fights, but something needs to be done to prevent kiting.
