because some of us already play on TC too, and would maybe like to get our pikeman together for a pikeys tent gathering

Thing is, you can almost garentee TCUL will happen, and the devs will probably want it so they can get more ppl on their to test server stress'.

Well you can read my thread on this on TC.

Basically, it is certainly true that for many the easiest way to actually do anything on TC would be a copy, it is still not certain that this is the best way to gather a stable population of testers. Just as an example, when character copy was implemented in DAoC the TC population which had been on target to nearly match live populations, was killed. Nowadays you're lucky to find 20 people on their test server.

So yeah, I can see where copies would be useful for you guys, and if/when it happens we'll try to make the best of it. However I fear that copies will be bad for the general testing apparatus.

I read your post and it had some valid points, but there are some key things that you don't adequately address. One, several crafting professions are severly limited in testers, such as Chef as there are 3 that produce food on test center, Bio-Engineer as it is a difficult profession to level leading to limited testing of food additives. So how do we know which foods will really work for us and how well? How about poorly represented combat professions, such as I don't know, Pikeman? Sure you may have manually leveled Swordsman on TC (instead of using the correspondents xp terminal) but have you leveled Pikeman on there or how about others?

Ok, I see your sig, but what about the crafting side of things?

Actually I see tons of pikemen every day. LVA's are one of my post popular weapons right now (in fact I'm sold out at the moment and have people bugging me to make more).

Chef food really got put through the wringer. BE additives, the whole nine yards. A lot of data came out of TC, a lot of discussion, etc. And in fact, even though we had TC Bria around, a copy of a live server, very little testing actually came out of there. I have seen virtually no posts from their saying: yeah we tested the new stuff and look what we found.

So I have to disagree. Personally I test new schematics of all the melee weapons (with good resources and 12 experimentation points) every patch just to see if there are any changes and to see how they are lining up.

I wish that CC could go in without any side-effects and you know it would be cool to bring in a lot of swordsmen, pikemen, etc. onto one server. However I do think we have good reasons to suspect that the end result may be harmful overall.

Anyway.

Yeah I called out one of the Chef forum posters on the TC-Bria, who said he was going to play his combat character (TKA, big surprise) to quote 'test out' the effects of the new foods. In my opinion that was not the area that needed a lot of testing. As for regular TC testing of Chef foods and BE additives (and/or BE pet creation/pet stims/mollusk harvestor schematic), I have to disagree with your 'put through the wringer' claim as there maybe 3 Chefs that do heavy TC testing, and not very many BE's either. I follow the Chef forum and the ones that do test do extensive testing and publish said results. But they are so limited by numbers, time, resources available (which are significant--who knew drinks have more ingredients than weapons), having to distract the few BE's from trying to figure out the completely undocumented pet crafting Dr Frankenstein system so they can make several kinds of light, medium & heavy food additives in quantity to test, etc.

Also, are Pikeman weapons actually getting some improvement with this patch as I've seen some people post here (without details of course)? That's been tested I gather.

Regarding pikeman weapon changes,

Check it out!

Regarding chefs, I know of at least 4 or 5 chefs that did a lot of work and a lot of players who tested the results, and I know that various changes happened because of this. Of course no testing can be exhaustive and there will likely be more to be learned on live, however I do think that an existing, persistent server is the best way to have a community that can test all angles of things like this. Evidence suggests that without a more traditional, persistent world, we may have a much smaller number of people actually testing these things out (even though, in a perfect world with people willing to test for long periods of time for free, other solutions might be better).

Hey, I could be wrong, but that's my 2 credits.

I must confess I'm not a big fan of character copying myself. You can see my comments on the TC board where a post I wrote got moved and stickied (without anyone asking me about it ).

However, if/when this does go in, stop by and say hi.
