That's gotta be a load of rubbish.. I looted a LVA from a nightsister the other day had high 500 damage, sliced it (normal slice, don't know how to double slice(fixed anyway I heard?)
and now it has over 600 max damage. Keeping it in case I ever do pikeman..yes I am no pikeman I am just lurking..sorry

hehehehe Good find there.. and yes, the 1k+ damage pikes are out there, but they're about as rare as dancers who aren't AFK.

heh I loot about 10 lances/lva a day from nightsisters...hoping to get a second +10 2h weapon speed tape...but all I get are lances...makes it tempting to go pike

The maximum damage of a player crafted LVA used all player crafted components is going to hit 380 or so. That comes out to 513 max with a 35% slice. Maybe, with NS Vibro Motors, it would be possible, but certainly not with all player crafted components.
