Sure. Wookiees have lots of good stat mods to make up for the armor that they didn't have. Plus, the new armor comes out in about 6 weeks.
Go for it.

If I were to recreate my character today I would go Human since they can migrate their secondaries to a pretty extreme degree. I have a friend who has his mind secondaries set to 1100 and all his pools at 400 I think.

Just need a Image Designer to migrate stats now I think nad if you go through th new player tutorial you can probably still do the initial migration for free.

Since when do wookiees have good mods to make up for poor armor?
Creature taming bonus = no longer works, so not even useful for CH
Rescue bonus = only useful for rangers, and even then not very
Warcy bonus = used to be great, now useless
/wookieeroar = /intimidate you can only use once every 5 minutes, but has a cone effect
HAM bonus = buffs make the bonus meaningless, and the secondaries still cap fairly low
Current armor = ok for kinetic-only PvE (though not nearly as good as ubese), useless for PvP. The new stuff should be better, though I'm skeptical it will be on par with composite.
Really though, none of that matters. If you want to play a wookiee pikeman, play a wookiee pikeman. It's already viable in PvE, and if the new armors are good it could easily become viable in PvP. Just don't expect it to be as easy as being a zabrak or human in the meantime.

I would advise against a Wookie Pikeman. I made one not too long ago andgot Novice Pikeman recently. The crappy armor is just too much of a problem. My friends and I go out hunting on Yavin4 often, and I usually end up dying. The only time I can take somehting is when we are all attacking it at the same time. So far, I see a Pikeman as COMPLETELY dependant on a group. Because Pike speed is like molases, and you'll miss a LOT, and with crappy (at best) armor you really can't afford to take those kind of chances in real battle situations. Now if you want to go out and maul dwarf nunas then you'll be fine. But You'll get owned by Klikniks.

Answer these questions for me:
Do you see yourself as a Wookie Pikeman?
Can you see yourself enjoying playing as a Wookie?
Do you like the idea of walking into a crowd and going RAWWWWR before doing a Polearm Spin 2?
Then make your Wookie Pikeman, and ignore the l33ts.

In two patches, Wookie armor will be on par with most of the other armor out there. A GIGANTIC nerf is coming through and the leveling out of armor is going to hit everyone very very hard.

Play a wookiee. Pretty soon there will be new armor for the wookiee's and from the concept drawings i've seen it looks pretty amazing. Besides, do you really want to be one of the composite clone troopers walking around? That's so unoriginal. Why be a human in a fantasy world when you're already ahuman irl? That, to me sounds boring. Wookiee's rule!
