Hey everyone,
Keldarin gave me some info on block this morning, and I think it's going to help clear up the problems with it. The first tidbit is that block was intended to only stop 50% of the damage, so that part is working right.
The good news is that they know because of that, it's a bit inbalanced to dodge. So, they'll be taking a good look at it soon.
They also know that it isn't working outside of CoB. He's going to track that bug down for us as well, but it may take a publish or three, it depends on how tough it is to track down.
Have a good day!

Very nice work.
I'm still baffled how it was ever decided to give two melees defenses that avoid 100% of damage while giving us 50% damage, but at least they recognize the imbalance. I just hope the imbalance itself wasn't intended.
Hopefully the solution will not be to nerf fencers and swordsmen, but to bring block up to their level.

Well that is good news. At least they are admitting that there is a problem. Maybe it will get in the next publish.

Gunman, could you please kindly suggest that pikemen get thecounterattack defense, and maybe give swordsmen an improvedblock ability. This is not that important, but another of the many inaccuracies that corrupt our class further. With the range of a lance or polearm, the obvious strength of our weapons is attacking our opponents before they can strike us. Someone with a large hammer or sword would most likely block. Why the dev's feel the need to short change us even on the one strength we should realistically and logically have (defense), makes meall the more sick with this class. Ihave been a pikeman since the beginning because I love the weapon, but I amgetting more disgusted at the lack ofknowledgeand common sense. This class would be an incredible melee class if the dev's had any clue as to how a real polearm is used in combat...

Finally!
As a master pikeman with some other melee class skills, it is sad to never see a block, but to see dodge and counterattack on a regular basis.

I disagree a little. Polearms are used much more effectively to block, especially in staff-fighting, which is primarily blocking. You could argue that every melee class counterattacks. When you block or dodge a blow, you take advantage of the situation and try to land a counterattack. For the purposes of this game, though, we have counterattack, dodge and block. Blocking with polearms makes more sense than any of the others.

Isn't that the developer in charge of Bio-Engineer? Well, the second Space expansion should be out by the time he gets to it.

Well, if we have to take 50% damage through block, why don't we get higher polearm toughness to absorb more of that excess damage?

Oooo, darn good question! Well the fact of the matter is that we got the low draw on developers. I wish we could get the Creature Handler Developer here as he actually cares about his job and communication with players.
