Thread: All I see is Complaints....
Ok i've been reading messages on this board for quite some time now. All i ever see is people whining about this or that, or crying cause they are underpowered.
Maybe you should stop posting about how bad you are and go experiment on what moves work the best in what succesion or in what situation.
You people always whine about not being able to tank. Im sorry this isnt **edit**ing Everquest. Melee'rs arent used as a tanking role in this game, they are used as a supporting. Im a rifleman, novice pikeman. I use a 98-357/3.3 LVA and i miss quite a bit but you konw what? I found ways around it. I have a swordsman on a different server, yeah so i can solo a friggin kimogila, ummmmm do you thinka Nym's Elite Pirate can? Or even Nym himself? I think not.
Instead of whining go experiment with what works. Personally i use Ubese armor all on the top, and no helmet(ham costs). I also use ubese boots. And a wrapped skirt cause it looks cool with my ubese. I also use a tatoonie sunburn, gives me like over +1k to all secondary stats when i take it, HAM COSTS ARENT A PROBLEM. And with my advanced Ubese i solo any creature under 7k, and with a bit of luck anything under 10k.
You also have a thing about talking about tanking and the role melee plays in this game. Im sorry but you all are retarded. You complain about this or that when you could be realising, THE ROLE OF MELEE IS NOT TO TANK. If it hasnt worked, dont you think maybe the problem is your theology is off? Wow that would be unheard of. I go big game hunting and sit right behind the pets, the creatures dont even bother me as i attack. Melee is the support in this game, not the tank. No this wasnt the way it was planned but for right now your going to have to except that until this game changes. Melee IS NOT CURRENTLY MEANT OR USED EFFECTIVELY FOR TANKING. SO DONT DO IT.
I know this was quite the flame post, but im just sick of all you people posting about how melee is broken. Melee is not broken, it just doesnt work the way you think it should. Try thinking about experimenting and solving stuff on your own, instead of whining about how its broken.

I was the most well known, and feared rebel on Wanderhome for the first 2 months of the game. Guess what, I'm a pikeman.
Just some information for you.
I have never been dropped in PvP by rifleman, or TKA. Swordsman and Fencer have an advantage over me, one with the mind attack, fencer with the speed and damage. Biggest threats to me in PvP? Pistoleers and Carbineers.
Honestly, between both of your posts, you both dont have a clue about the class.
Well, in response to the flame post, all I can say is that despite all the complaining, I have yet to hear anyone complaining about not being able to survive. We all find ways to use the skills given in this game to make our character survivable. If you were to ask the question again as to what all of our masters or even novice's have as other professions, you'll hear lots of variety of skills and differing tactics people use to keep themselves alive. Whether that is doctor or creature handler or even master brawler really doesn't alter the fact that if you added those same skills to another elite profession at the same level, their time at it would probably be much easier than ours is. This is not a complaint on my part, it is simply the fact that we all have to deal with. The real purpose of discusion right now on this board is how to fix our general problems. How do we make ourselves more survivable as PIKEMAN, not leaning so heavily on our secondary professions? Higher toughness or defense mods and increased accuracy is a good start. In the meantime, yes do what you have to do. Find yourself a good master weaponsmith and ask them to customize your lva exclusively for range modifiers. Yes, you will get less damage and speed, but you will take chance more and more out of the equation. I use a 96-328 3.7 speed and -33 modifier LVA. I hit a lot more often, more than enough to make up for the lesser high damage I used to do. BUT in the meantime we ALSO must make our voices heard, we need fixing far more than any other class, and we should all strive to make it happen.

Dont diss my player also, and you say i dont know what im doing with pikeman? Either im misreading your posts, and interupting what your saying for something else, or im the one who DOES know how to play as a pikeman.

P.S. -- FYI i havent solo'd a kimo with a melee weapon i did it with my carbine a while ago, they arent that hard either, just underhand and cripple, i have maxed carbine speed, or did at the time, still fast though.
Okay, so far I gather from your post that the tanking job goes to the critter handler. So we have one tanking class andfifteen or so support classes.
The best part of trolls is their regenerative ability. I bet the trolls on this post make great pikemen due to just that.
I normally don't respond to many posts but this is one i felt needed to be addressed. Yes, there are far too many whiners in this game. That in itself doesn't surprise me, my job as a computer tech teaches me everyday that people would rather b---- and moan about a problem than accept responsibility themselves and find a solution. However...
Pikeman is an elite combat class,we should at least be comparable to other combat classesin our ratio ofoffensive/defensive capabilties.No game ever made had managed to perfectly balance stats for all playable races, or civs, or classes. This is going to happen, everyone should already be prepared for this. The goal here is to narrow the gap between the strongest classes and the weakest classes. Once the gap has been narrowed, THEN, we use our individual skill to overcome our weaknesses. That is how it should be,it isour job to help the devs balance the game. Wecan only do thisby pointing outour strengths in relation to others.I agree we need tofocus on improving the playability of the class and less on complaining about it.

7k-10k...so? Armored/unarmored? What are they? Lots of people can solo 7k-10k HAM mobs.
And as far as sitting behind the pets and not being attacked...this is slated to change such that mobs will often bypass the pets.What will you do then?

Never dropped by a TKA? If you have actually fought them, including TKMs and have never lost to one, explain how, because the other 849 of us would like to know. Your post is not helpful.

In almost the same breath you make wild claims and insults and then say "don't diss my player." You have done nothing to gain any respect and you are doing nothing but ignorant flaming.
If, as you say, the role of melee is not to tank, then what is the role? You say as a support. What does this mean? If you *don't* have pets, then what? If you don't have pets tanking for you and you are the one that is taking all the hits, are you still going to insult and ridicule those who think melee should have better defenses? Are you still going to say"I'm not a tank and I'm not supposed to be" when you are the one in the group taking all the hits? Are you never frustrated when you see how some other melee classes can take many more hits, hit much faster and land more hits than you and are generally better all-around? Your post is not helpful.

and look at greece.. pikeman obviously has THE BEST defense vrs UNARMED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL Sowrd and fencer... in fact I think that might be why GUARDS in the starwars movies were pikeman! Hence royal Imperial guards and jabbas guards. But melee isnt broken, all melee people characters are JUST FRIGGIN DUMB TO SWING A CLUB NAIL YOU IN THE BACK and bring you to the ground! Watch cops.. there are so many times they fire wildily at crooks in a car right at them point blank in melee range and NO ONE GETS SHOT! Look at the latest footage of the old fat man shooting that lawyer, the lawyer is hiding behind a tree... he gets hit... but look how man missed!!!!!!!!! POINT BLANK!
Too many ppl say dont bring a knife to a gun fight.. well whats it matter when THEY CANT HIT ANYTHING, in real coniditons!?? Heck Jet Li can take anyone before they reached into the holster to get a gun.. in all out war is another story... but when i attack first upclose as melee and a guy with a rifle is trying to shoot me 2 ft away looking through a sniper scvope when Im melee beats me!?? The problem that a lot of the more common flamers that are contiually saying that nothing is wrong with pikeman, is that these guys are not noticing that we do care about the weapon, are sticking with this weapon, and would like to be on equal footing with the rest of the world.
they generally sound like pre-civil rights whites saying that black-only bathrooms are the same, and the back of the bus is fine, and sub-standard schooling is just as equal, so live with it.
fact is, he's happy to be support on this server, when he wants more, he goes to another. that doesn't help people who picked pikeman as primary.
Also, a lot of flamers lately are talking about how to play pikeman, but they are more or less talking about how to use other skills other than pikeman. like a pet, or TKA skills. That's not really accurately describing how the pikeman class really is. The only real reason I live with what I can do, is because I live off of my Master brawler abilities. intimidate2 really helps my damage capabilities, and so does Berserk2 without using but so much HAM.
We complain because we love this class and want to stick with it. Think about it, if you do well with pikeman/(other skill here) then you would do much better with TKA/(other skill here)
