Thread: The least fun I've had in this game
So, I was a novice fencer. Not too bothered about becoming FS but thought I'd have a look at my festive holocron anyway....
"You must become a master pikeman", snickers your holocron.
No problem, think I - I'll just ditch fencing (which was great fun)and take up what I have now started to refer to as "pikey".
I had previously seen some of the "couldn't hit water if I fell out of a boat" style comments regarding pikey but thought nothing of it. Now, on the other hand I am more than fully aware.
Still got 60k XP to go to reach novice and I'm thinking of abandoning the whole pikey thing until such a time as it's notthe incarnation of pain. Yesterday I was incapped by a meatlump thug - I KILL THOSE GUYS WITH ONE HIT.... ONE HIT.
What did I do wrong in a former life to deserve this? I went from being able to take care of myself to being a virtual cripple in combat.
So, to those who do this through choice, and those who were otherwise guided here you have my utmost respect and sympathy. Pikey truly is the worst class I have seen in the game, and I've done droid engineering, so I know what a pathetic class looks like.
This is not a request for help, or any kind of "SOE sucks" style comment. I have brought this on myself by choosing to follow the holocron. I am merely ventining, and demonstrating some solidarity with those others who are afflicted by this, most worthless, of endeavours.

I require no sympathy. Buffed and armored, I stand at the end of a fight, while most others lie upon the ground. I have no special axe, and dont have 12 other professions as back up, or have their modifiers. In fact, as a result of the holo chase, I had to give up all medic skills, and I still stand.
As I work up the marksman tree however, I have my butt consistantly handed to me.
I started piking on saturday, mastered brawler monday, now am 0324 in pike. I went to fort tusken got incapped a few times (thanks muon) but nothing i couldn't handle. My incaps came so far apart that force of will worked when i needed it. I got 300k xp easy in a few hours till it got overcrowded. All this while everyone else in my group died repeatedly. Master Brawler is necessary imo. But I'm having more fun with pikeman then with any of my other professions. Good thing i had all that combat xp saved up.
I need to change my sig.
It does get better eventually. Eventually.

Ok, I don't quite understand this. You were a master fencer and then opened the xmas hell-o. Then gave up your fencer skills to pursue the pike prof the hell-o said to. Hmmm.
If any part of this is incorrect forgive my statements but its not quite clear in your post.
If you went to pursue pikeman and gave up ALL of your fencer skills first you are a dumbass. If you still have defense mods and skills from your fencer prof and are saying that you are having a tough time with pikeman you are so full of sh!t your eyes are brown.
If its the former, why on earth would you give up all your skills of one profession before moving on to the next. Not only does it make changing your mind something very hard to do but it wipes out all the skill mods you worked so hard for.
If its the latter, I don't believe word one of your story. Having mastered pikeman and then deciding to tackle master brawling and then the other elite profs as well, I am shocked at how easy it is with the mods from my pikeman profession. Mods to melee defense and ranged defense are just that. They are not dependent on what weapon you hold.
Like I said, which of the two it is, is not evident in your post. Either way enjoy your 'pikey'.
Stick it out.I was in the same boat as you complaining (rightly so) but stick it out.
a few pointers
1. avoid the long vibro axe like the plague until you get the first accuracy box. It's a death trap. Go back to the basic lance. It'll be like fencer only slower.
2. stick it out until you get to 0-0-0-2 then you'll start to hit more than you miss.
once you get to 2-0-0-2 things will get much better. Trust me. Just trust me.
Once you hit novice advance up the stances discipline first for speed. From there do whatever you want.
It WILL get better you just have to stick it out.
I've just decided to come back to pikeman with an alt. I was trying to do too much with my primary character and have decided to cut back. My main will be TKA/scout and my new character will be Pikeman/Doctor.
Stick it out man. It will get better. I'm telling you the truth and I'm speaking as someone who was in the same boat as you. It will suck until you get that first accuracy box (0-0-0-2) but from there it will be awesome and very very fun.
Pikeman was my first holocron profession. I've since unlocked and still keep it. It's one of the most fun professions, that has a 'Star Warsy' feel to it- Jabbas Guards etc.
It starts rough, mainly due to a inaccurate weapon. You really want to be master brawler first, then work on pikeman, and have stored up max combat XP so you can instantly get the first 2 support skills- this is where you get your accuracy mods. The Long Vibro Axe is Medium AP, this is a HUGE advantage. And a well crafting, well sliced one with a melee powerup does a base damage close to 600!
It took me 7 days to master it, I was a Doc/CM before starting so was dropping CM where I could to pick up brawler and initially started pikeman without master brawler. It was still 'ok'.
Doctor buff , armor , muon and Fishak Surprise are your true friends as a pikeman. You need the buffs to reduce the high costs of the specials, but man, when you can spam them... it's magic.
Area Knockdown, then Area Attack 2 is just plain devastating. My friends ask me all the time to come out and help them level by bleeding their targets, which at master you can do very well. You can stack the two action bleeds (which, I think is sort of overkill) and the bleeds range from 500-1500, and 1000-2500. If you are lucky you can get a nice 4000 bleed every ten seconds! Insanely powerful.
Center of being cannot be under-rated. Use it all the time. I never needed warcry with this ability on, and good armor.
Right now, I am the tank who goes to pick a fight with various Krayt Dragons, Nightsisters and Dark Jedi. First things to do are Center of being (just before the fight if you can!) , Warcry 2, Indimidate 2, then action 1 and 2 bleeds. Pop the muon and food before the fight too, if you can, and you will be able to dish out 10 minutes of some SERIOUS ass kicking.
To take it further, I eventually dropped all doc and just kept 2/0/0/0 medic. I piked up 2/3 TKA and am working on 1/2 fencer. This is an exceptionally powerful combination. High block, high dodge, super high dizzy/knockdown defences and excellent arsenal of moves. I can kick serious butt, especially up close, in PvP.
It actually has been the MOST fun to me. I enjoy it far more then my Jedi character right now !
