Thread: New ham system on TC
What do u think about that ?
HAM SYSTEM CHANGE TO COMBAT SPECIALS: This is a MAJOR change, and is something you should all try to test if you have time to head over to TestCenter. The change is that all ham costs for combat moves are no longer damage. With the old system, you would spend 100 points and it would be identical to damage. With the new system, the HAM points are removed from maximum value, not the current value -- so your HAM bars will actually shrink as you use specials but you won't actually be DAMAGING yourself. The ham costs have a SIGNIFICANTLY accelerated regeneration rate -- it's much faster than healing.
I tested this a bunch and here's what I found: with 950 Health/Action/Mind (400 in all secondaries but Willpower) I was regenerating around 10-11 HAM per second, which is much faster than I ordinarily regenerate. It seemed like this rate was dynamic and would get even faster as my action bar got small, because my bars never got super low,but I'm not sure -- I was fighting at the time and kept getting booted every few minutes, which was annoying. As a practical matter I found that 1) it was much easier to spam specials WITHOUT having medic because the specials wouldn't actually cause damage to me and I recovered fully within a super short amount of time but 2) healing is less important because you no longer need it in order to spam specials.
We wont take anymore dmg by spamming special but i hope the regen rate will be enough fast we gonna have 0 in ham in a really short time.
I'll have to test this out tonight for myself, at any rate. Here's to being optimistic.

Grrr...this makes no sense to me. I hope they dont decide to keep our HAM cost the same and say "well we change the system to fit you better instead of the HAM' cost"
On a side note Hi Antares!...IMHO I think you would make an excelent Correspondent for us, I know we have Opeth*cough*, but Im sure his time will be up soon, and myself along with some others arnt to happy with him...
When the time comes you have my vote!
This is going to be bad. My only chance right now in most meele combat is to stun 2/ sweep1/ polearm 2 (or actionbleed 2) Eithor one of these combos will take me down to 1/2 power (~500/1000) and massivly dammage my opponant.
so with the new system I can't heal this dammage and it will take ~50s for me to regain the lost HAM?? Its fine to have a system like this if you are sitting back and shooting, you can take the break and let your HAM regenerate, but if you are up on the front line of battle and your only lifeline is the medic standing behind you healing your wounds as you give them to your self this system will be suicide.
Also see that there will be some sort of new defence reducing the amount of dammage you can take by eithor melee or ranged attacks. Melee people get a melee defence in increments of 80%, 60%, 40%. and ranged people get a ranged defence. Smugglers and BH both get melee defence, once again making BH or Smug/ pistoleer the untlimate combo.
Well, I prefer the old system because under the new system you still only have 900 ham after a shot that costs 100 ham (assuming you had 1000 to begin with), but under the old system I could heal myself as fast as I wanted and never die. In the new system, I won't be able to heal at all.
Sounds crappy to me. Sounds like they are trying to nerf combat people.
I think this new system makes sense. Doing a special shouldn't injure you in the same way that a creature does when it takes a bite out of you. I kind of think of it as when you perform a special, it's as if you get winded or tired.
For me, it just gets confusing when "combat" damage and "special move" damageaffect the same bar.
To me, it would have made more sense if you have your HAM bars for Damage, and another separatebar for Fatigue. The HAM bars are affected by your enemies, when oneprimary barhits zero, you are incapped, just like today. The Fatigue bar is for specials. The lower it gets, the less effective your specials are. You can still do specials, but a polearm hit when your Fatigue isat 1/900 isnot nearly as powerful as ifyour Fatigue level was at 900/900.And the effectiveness of knockdowns would be determined by your Fatigue level as well. In this model, you use stimpacks to heal the Damage, and you use Spice to alleviate Fatigue.

Oh, I still think that our HAM costs are too high, but that is a separate issue.

You guys are missing the BIG POINT, the HAM costs that lower the max of ham is regenerated FASTER than you naturally heal. AND it might be dynamic, increasing as you get lower

right...but its still not faster than healing it with a stem...and now...we wont be able to do that...we will just slowley just waste away....i dont like this at all
