So, you just finished your Brawler Polearm skills and you want to be a pikeman. Congradulations! Welcome ot the proffession. We Pikeman may be few, but we are a proud few. Though other professions may wish to nerf us, we remain strong, and they are just afraid. The Pikeman profession is a group, a community, so be sure to help out another pikeman in need when you can, who knows, one may even save your life and return the favor.

For those of you needing a trainer for novice visit an NPC at one of these locations:

Pikeman Trainer (-2932, 2385) - Mos Espa, Tatooine
Pikeman Trainer (-5277, -2325) - Narmle, Rori
Pikeman Trainer (-5376, 4311) - Theed City, Naboo
Polearm Trainer (522, -2934) - Dearic, Talus

In this post, I ask that high level pikeman offer tips (the abbridged version, so reading them do not take too long) for those new to the pikeman class. Offer everything from strategies to the best armor and weapon salesmen on your server. I guess since I am starting the thread, I get to start

If you are on the Gorath server, give the character Khrim Charan a /tell. That is my pikeman character. If you need training, some cheap weapons or armor, or even a bit of cash to start you out, then I can help. I have a cantina to the NW of Bestine that has people who will heal you up and fix that battle fatigue, at little to no cost. Just Mail me or the characters ("belle", "belle-morte", or "Cesrir") and they will give you the coords. You can stock up on cheap food items from the bartendor vender thereprovided byour master chef "Ook".

Thank you all for chosing pikeman, and or posting in this forum if you are already a master pikeman.

Don't go pikeman unless:

If you need training on Lowca you can mail Zorlon.

But, let's be realists ok?

The ONLY REASONS you shouldbe taking up Pikeman are:

1- Your MASOCHISTIC! This profession has NO advantange now, it's a test in futility.
2- You want to carry a pike for more then just looks, but know full well you won't be doing more damage then anyone, anything, or that sheep from Warcraft 3.
3- You just plain don't know how ghimped we are, and don't realize the chance of SOE fixing this profession is slim to none.

From one Master Pikeman to all people considering going into Novice Pike- Get a profession that the devs have said won't be nerfed, like Commando, or Bounty Hunter, or at a lesser extreme, Smuggler/Pistoleer. Youl'l be much, much happier in the end.

If you really must choose to be a pikeman now...

- Don't bother with the long vibro axe/long vibro lance until you get higher levels of the pikeman support line for accuracy. otherwise, it's just pretty frustrating. It's probably better to forego thepowerful damage to keep the better accuracy you will get with a regular lance.

- Currently, it's nearly necessary for all meleers to have a ranged profession. Pick up pistol or carbine to augment the times when it's impossible to melee. (surprisingly often)

- Currently, it's nearly necessary for pikemen to have medic skills as well...keep your stimpacks in your toolbar, you will be using them very often. Pikemen seem to be the most-oft incapped or corpsed combat profession at the moment.

- A great place to get polearm xp is anywhere tusken raiders are. I have found that places like the tusken fort, bunker, etc. are great sources of polearm xp because pikemen do really well against them, as they often use rifles = larger xp cut for you.

If you're on Scylla and need training, send a /tell.

Never underestimate the power of Chef food. Since chefs seemed to be a bit rare on my server, I took up the skill to augment my powers as a Pikemen. Mixology II probably provides THE best melee/entertainer drink.....Tatooine Sunburn. +1500str +1500sta -100focus. Just one is enough to keep the Action bar regenning quickly enoughoffset the HAM costs for specials for at least that pool. Meatlumps at about 40-80con, helps for Health, but is no where near the power of the sunburn.

I feel really bad for you guys. All melee is on the back burner it seems. The pistoleers must be able to scream louder. They are getting their issues fixed it seems. People are leaving pike.

However on a positive note. I will say my buddy Rango(Master Pike)(CH), myself(Master Sword), and Reilec(3,3,3,2)BH went to Dathimir last night. 3 of us were able to survive as long as we were there. It was really fun. On the final battle with literally 30-40 Parabols, you know those little monkey looking things, at the downed Jedi ship, the BH was the first to get killed. They always seem to aggro him. Then about 5 minutes later Rango went down. Finally, I was able to kill the last of them. It was a long hard fought battle. I rezed them andlogged. The point I want to make is Rango was not cannon fodder in these types of battles. Actually he was very strong. However in PVP we both are cannon fodder compared to the BH. So I guess it depends on what you want to do..

I'm inclined to agree with you, Morath. I'm at 2-0-3-2 in pikeman, and I do fine when grouped in PvE. The areas where I think we're seriously gimped are solo PvE and PvP of any sort.

Another chef food I like is breath of heaven (master chefs). The ones I get from a master chef add like 450-500 to strength, quickness and focus, lowering the cost of specials by what seems like 20% (just a guess) for like 8 minutes. If you can't find a master chef, Ryshcate (dessert III)does the same thing as breath of heaven, just not as well, maybe half as good.

Also hotkey a good set of armor and put it on when you're not using specials. All I have is crappy dantooine animal bones, and I can still make advanced chitin with 47-53% kinetic resists, meaning you'll only take about 25% of the kinetic damage from most, if not all creatures (never seen a creature with armor piercing kinetic attacks). So you'll live about 4 times longer when not using specials. With good or even great dantooine bones, I could probably make 60% kinetic chitin, cutting damage taken to 20%.

Why did you guys ruin this thread? This wasn't intended to be a message board to post and talk about how bad it is... thanks a lot... Real nice guys.
