Thread: To the Veteran Pikemen, is a good all-out Pikeman template?

Master Pikeman

TKA 0/0/0/4

Pistoleer0/0/4/0

Fencer 3/4/4/0

Novice Medic


I got up to 120 vs KD and Dizzy defense which is 5 off the cap. 115+ block and also +71 Defensive Acuity of a TKA for Block to work well. +146 Melee defense which exceeds the cap, and +126 ranged defense and Ranged mitigation 2 from Pistoleer.

I think this is pretty good, please comment...

My template is nearly identical. Works just fine. The best template out there I've seen in action though is Master Doc/Master Pikeman. Just can't beat the doc templates for viability

I hate to say is but I'm almost certain that defensive acuity only works when fighting unarmed the def stacking does workI know that much (so you'll keep all the def vs stuff) and good call on the ranged migiate 2, but I would suggest droping the pistoleer and tka bit (if i'm right about def acu) and taking rifles 0-4-4-0 to get therangedmigate and cap block as well

What really? Defensive Acuity only work for TKA?

I thought Defensive Acuity is what mods the change to counter-attack/block/dodge when the main Melee defense fails?


Seeing it how I see it, Defensive Acuity is useless for TKAsince they dont even have a single counter-attack/block/dodge modifier at all.


Please correct me if Im wrong though...

nah I'm pretty sure it only works for tka (and even then as you said not that much) a couple of guys I know did some testing and I'm sure thats what they found

It only works for TKA but it does work, TKA randomly does one of the 3 instead of always one. In a lot of fights I've seen counterattack vs 1 attack, "you evade" vs another and block on yet another attack. It's a weird thing and make TK a bit more interesting


The problem with it is that it wasn't brought up to par when the other profs got their block/dodge/counterattack improved.

If I didn't want TKM, I would have gone for the fencer defenses personally (but I wanted a second mastery and dislike fencer)

i would master TKM and drop fencer to 4400 personally....

Hmm I dont think I want to change the set up to get the 120 vs KD and Dizzy defense. My set up I think is the most cost-effective way to get near cap for both defenses. Hehehe I think you have Master brawler too, so you have a third mastery actually

That is a very nice template. Although like mentioned above defense acuity fromTKAis not going to benefit your ability to block. Defense acuity is solely activated while you are fighting unarmed and using center of being, just like dodge, block, and counterattack skill mods are weapon specific. Other than that, it's a great template, especially if you have wicked DoT weapons and speedcapped.

Hmm I will try to get something more useful plus having both melee and ranged defense capped or near capped. But I think this is the most I can get with this template. I really thought defensive acuity is useful for all melee proffession, thanks guys I was wrong


Well right now Im still at my master TK master Rifle template. I enjoy this template as well. However I have always wanted to be a Pikeman, just like my first toon Nalndra was, before I left SWG for FFXI (very bad move )


Anyways, ehmmm do Pikeman really that dependent to the DoT weapons? I mean arent there at least equal weapons to that of the uber Power hammers owned by the swordsman? I never really liked using DoT other than bleed really.

TK 4-3-0-4

Master Brawler

Master Pikeman

Master Swordsman


granted i only used my pikeman to land dots on mobs.. :s
