Pikeman Archive
Thread: Wow! It is now official! We are the least profession ever taken to novice!
That's righ! 0.25 of the population of all the galaxies are novice pikeman... there are even more chefs and image designers! Lol! They could probably beat us in battle too. While we continualy miss, chefs and image designers through there food and cosmetic products at us
. Truly sad. But that shows that whoever is still a pikeman is definatly a die hard and proud of it (or a holo-pikeman). Only the best become pikeman ![]()
Yeah, sad isn't it? And I'm a wookiee, so I am uber-gimped. So much for being the tank for my RL friends....

This has got to be a smack in the devs' colective faces. People basically fall into four categories:
a. Those who want power (i.e. they will pick the strongest profession regardless of what it is. A good example of this is Master bh/ch dabbler). People of Holo-professions (professions that the holocron told you to master) would fall into this category.
b. Those who prefer a general type of combat (i.e. melee or ranged). Those will tend to pick the strongest of that general type of combat (ex: Melee: tka, Ranged: bh, let something else fight for you: ch or imp with an at-st
)
c. Those who prefer a specific type of combat (like pistoleer or fencer or pikeman. Even bh. They pick it because they like that specific type of fighting style, not because it is powerful.)
d. Those who just like to experience a bit of everything. These people would likely master a profession, play with it a while, and then pick up a new one. People of holo-professions would also fall into this category (some of them at least).
So what does this tell us?
The strongest professions will be where all the people are. They will have people from category a,b,c, and d. However, the professions with the least power and worst in combat (or worse for getting money (like for crafting)) will have only people from category c, a few from d (and those people would often shift between professions) and very few from a (those would be the holocron people). If we are at the bottom of the barrel then you can tell where we stand as far as usefulness.

I've played a melee profession in every game I've ever had. And sooner or later I've always been disappointed because they end up being gimped at higher levels.
Not trying to flame anyone here, but I ask myself this question related to SWG...Why bring a knife to a gunfight?
For SWG I decided to go with a ranged weapon. Why am I here now you ask? The almighty holocron told me to. (I fit into catagory d - I want to see all the game has to offer).
A little offtopic - I was a nortorious BH/CH dabbler. It was the most effective way to see everything around. But I tell you, there is a reason BH is the least mastered profession. It's called the Investigation tree. It takes months to grind out, even if that is all that you do.
I wasn't having any fun at all when I found the holo. I'm finally having fun again.
So far, pikeman is a blast. But I do have an overwhelming urgeto raid a castle...![]()

And why should someone when you get **edit** near all that BH has to offer if you ignore Investigation?
I became a pikeman for RP purposes, I am a Royal Guard in my PA. I am also a glutton for punishment since I am a Rifleman also. The two worst HAM costs in the game and the least two accurate professions in the game.
But put them together and they really aren't that bad with some healing skills.
I'm building a Wookie Pikeman Squad Leader on Starsider. If only I had enough points to do Chef as well.
My one character is not a pikeman yet, but that was the thing I decided when creating him that he is aiming for. Given that I don't give him much of my time it may take a while, but I think the pike is a great weapon. I keep picturing a pikeman with a mount and armor running through things ![]()
Seriously though, even with my brawler polearm skills I love this weapon and the challenge associated with it. I have more fun in combat with him than I do my main character who I have worked on for months. I will be pleased to eventually join the ranks of such a profession, 150k or so more xp for that to happen.
