Thread: Advanced Guide

I'd like us to all come together and make an advanced Pikeman guide.

This guid would include things such as

What is a good LVA or VL?

Which boxes should I go for first?

Which moves are most important to us?

I'd like this to be more than a FAQ though. I'd like it to give situations and help guide people through those situations. I think it would be awsome if everyone contributed to this, and we can submit the advanced guide from the entire community.

Please leave you contributions to this guide below, and I will format them all into one document. Please try to keep your entries short but informative. Thanks!

I'm fairly new to the Pikeman community, having played the game in whole since December 26th of the previous year and fashioning the Pikeman title for about two months now, three weeks of which as a Master. There are surely things that have escaped my notice and things that I haven't figured out how to do right yet but considering its not nuclear physics I think I can post a few ideas, suggestions and tips to help fellow Pikemen around the Galaxies.

First, I'll begin with the basics, what constitutes a good weapon for a Pikeman. Seeing that the DEVs have decided to give us the LVA at Polearms 3 of the Brawler line and the VL at Novice Pikeman, someone has to be very patient in trying to get the Novice Pikeman since the LVA, even with the accuracy updates, is extremely inaccurate and a weapon so heavy you'll most likely be pounded twice before you can hit once back. Personally I believe the choice of weapon changes as one advances through skill boxes. I'd say that until Stances 3 and Support 3 the VL does its job and it does so rather well. After that point, get your LVA, hug it and love it to the end of your days. Main target until Stances 3 is a decent speed VL with average damage (a speed slice is preferable up to here) after that it is a LVA with average speed of 4.5 with high damage and a good damage slice. I strongly recommend running the Jabba missions to get some lightweight vibro motors that produce some fast and accurate weapons with a bit below the average HAM costs.

The eternal question of a Pikeman to be however is what to pick as a tree and what to advance first. My own setup went to Defensive 1 then all the way to Stances 4 while at the same time advancing Support as the Combat xp rolled in. The good thing with that is, that by the time you hit Stances 4 you have Support 2 at least which means you get maximum speed until you hit Master and the first accuracy box to help you wield the heavy LVA and advance way faster. The Defensive 1 while sounding ridiculous as a choice lends you some blocks, which might save your hide and the all-loving PolearmSweep1, which can be invaluable in crisis situations plus Melee Mitigation 1 which is far from bad. After that point I went up the Defensive line first, to gather all the defences I could and the also invaluable PolearmSweep2, then advanced the Offensives and voila, one Master Pikeman ready to go. As a side note, I picked up TKA and all the Meditation line since stopping bleeds/poison/disease and healing up wounds saves some critical time and trouble. The necessity of Novice Medic cannot be stressed enough.

Combat tactics is a tricky matter and one that each adapts to his own style. However there are some things to be kept in mind that can save each and every Pikeman in existence and are effectively bread and butter.

a.Never leave home without your spices; I can't recall how many times I've been saved by the pop of muon gold or neuron pixie at point critical.

b.If you can get Doctor buffs, get them, full package, preferably from a Master Doctor. They cut the special cost short and allow you to actually use some of our nifty moves that otherwise can spell doom.

c.Musician and Dancer buffs, if you can spare the time to grab them do it. You can never have enough Mind to play with.

d.Chef foods are as critical as Doc buffs, Vasarian Brandy and Vagnerian Canape are my personal favourites since they boost the critical Mind pool.

e.Do NOT spam specials unless buffed. It’s a lesson hard to remember since our moves are so beautiful in animation you just want to see them again and again and again. However with the HAM costs the specials require its easier to get incapped by spamming them than getting incapped by the attacks of what you fight.

f.Always have your stims at the ready, don't know what happens on other servers but I got my fingers on a crate with 50 408 Base B Stims which have saved my hide countless of times.

g.Keep your eyes on your HAM bars, as long as the mind does not drain fast the enemy is bound to go down. Experience proves that 80% of the incaps are mind ones, it is very, very, rare to go down from Health or Action unless you spam specials of course.

h.Love your armour, get a Ubese suit and never let go of it. If you can manage to wear Composite without overstraining your secondaries do so, I prefer using Composite in PvP situations or when Doc buffed where its weight doesn't show anyway.

i.Crowd control is our game, I always have a reinforced combat staff with me to do some PolearmSweep2, PolearmAreaAttack2, PolearmStun2 or PolearmSpinAttack2 and land states on what I fight. When Doc buffed HAM waste is not a critical issue so you can use the above moves with your main weapon.

j.Check your enemy in Examine, switch weapons to match resistances, vulnerabilities and AR. Personally I'd rather use the LVA on a Medium armoured enemy that has 60% Kinetic than the VL even if his Electricity is 15%, you lose the bonus damage from the AR-AP difference anyway and in most cases the LVA hits far harder.

k.Try to be wearing only armour and weapon when fighting; even the slightest ornamental item or backpack can trigger the dreaded armour hole. Until they actually manage to fix it it’s a good idea to avoid triggering it.

l.If you use shields remember to check their condition and stats on occasion, they go out pretty fast from hard hitting things and their protections shift like crazy.

m.When surrounded by enemies don't panic, take them out one at a time trying to KD and Dizzy those you don't have as the current target.

n. Get used to being the meat shield and getting incapped by things that look weak, bid your time till you hit Master, everything changes then, believe me.

As the issue of what to fight to advance is concerned, I've said it once, I'll say it to the end of my days, Dantooine is your friend. Get Doc Buffs, a crate of stims, grab a shuttle and camp the planet. Pick Quenker missions until Stances 3 then switch to Savage Quenkers, if you can use a droid or pet as an anchor in the outpost do it, the xp bonus is worth it. You make fast money and even faster xp that way.

Those are all for now, if I think of anything else I'll post an addendum since I can't edit posts yet. Hope its of some help.

PS: So much about the short post… sorry Gunman

Well the above post was quite good. I think I'll try to simplify it a bit for people who don't like to read (you know who you are. You were just about to post a 'what/how do I' thread.)

What weapons to use?

  • Speed sliced basic lance until novice pikeman.

  • At novice pikeman use a SS basic lance for kinetic damage and a SS Vibro Lance for electric damage.

  • At support 4, switch to a SS Long Vibro Axe for kinetic.

  • At stances 4 switch to damage sliced weapons.

What skills to get first?

  • Intermediate Defense to obtain sweep 1 (unless you are a master brawler and have lunge hit 2, in which case skip this step and go to the next one)

  • Master stances (you need the speed and spin attacks are very useful)

  • Master defenses (defenses are key to survival)

  • Lastly master offenses (Area hits don't do as much damage as spin attacks so aren't as desireable)

What are the best moves?

  • Intimidate to lessen opponents damage by 50%.

  • KD move (sweep or lunge hit) followed by warcry and then damage hit (spin attack or leg hit depending on your preference)

  • Area sweep and spin attacks for multiple mobs.

  • Don't use polearm hit 3 after a KD. The mob will be forced to standing.

  • Spin attack dizzies. Not a bad idea to dizzy then KD an NPC or PC. Doesn't do much to creatures though.

What armor to wear?

  • 70-80% Advanced kinetic Ubese for most mobs.

  • 80% kinetic 60-80% base Advanced Composite for PvP and fighting nightsisters.

  • A stun layered set for fighting riflemen and those new geonosian stun pistols.

What to hunt?

  • Pikets and quenkers on Dantooine.

  • Baz nitches on Dathomir.

  • Crimson Bluurgs on Endor.

What should I eat?

  • BE enhanced brandy adds 400+ to mind/focus/willpower for up to 40 minutes and is only 49 filling. You can consume 2 of these at once.

  • Canape adds 200+ to focus/willpower for approx.15 minutes, at 33 filling. 3 can be consumed at once.

  • Muon gold does 500 to the mind/focus/willpower for 10 minutes, but when it leaves the body you will lose 500 for several minutes. Use with caution.

What are good stats on weapons?

  • Long Vibro Axe - 4.5 speed 120-370 damage -30 range mods.

  • Vibro Lance - 3.9 speed 95-295 damage -15 range mods.

  • Basic Lance -4.7 speed 50-260 damage +7 range mods.

I'll post more when I can think of more. Those should do for now.

Good stats on weapons, from Intrepid:

LVA 111-380 damage, 4.4 Spd, -18 Ideal Range, 77/65/33 costs

VL's 97-303 damage, 3.9 Spd+1 Ideal Range, 60/77/33 HAM costs

As posted by legwand:

What to hunt?

  • Pikets and quenkers on Dantooine.
  • Baz nitches on Dathomir.
  • Crimson Bluurgs on Endor.

Most of those are great, but instead of quenkers, go for savage quenkers. They have slightly higher HAM, but are better XP...grouped, normal quenkers are worth about 31-3200xp and the savage are worth 39-4000xp each. They are 6.8-7k missions on the terminals. Dont forget, unequip all weapons first for missions...makes the missions closer (unless ur TKA)....

I mastered pike entirely on handack rock smashers of endor. Grab missions for them for 11-12k and give 4.7k exp if grouped. When using an lva you'll do about 1.3x the amount of dmg you would normally do due to their lower kinetic resistance. And they don't have a kd or posture change or blind. All they do is dizzy and intimidate.

Try this one.

It's a little old, but I don't think anything has really changed aside from weapon accuracy (just add 20 to both the VL and LVA).

There are so many avenues for tree progression and things really switch up depending on the solo pikeman and the grouped pikeman.

Combat XP comes as it comes, you'll either have it stockpiled or you'll just whittle away at it. When group hunts are your primary form I would suggest getting a 404* as soon as possible. The area sweeps are a great form of crowd control, unless you have a few boxes into the accuracy line I would suggest using a VL or your more accurate Basic Lance to execute any and all state and KD moves. The speed will be of invaluble assistance to keep your DPS up to par with the others in your group, thus evening out the XP distribution as much as possible. NOTE: If you are fighting with another meele in group and you are not going up against the higher level mobs, it is a good idea to balance yourarea attacks with single target attacks on a mob OTHER than the one your comrade is attacking at that time. This way you can maintain a better aggro balance, and in the event of a TK or Swordsman you are not loosing XP with a lower DPS. If you are the only melee in group, the defensive line will be the most importaint place you can be. A couple of shots of brandy, with buffs or a medic, and you can chain Center Of Being at a near consistant rate. Keep hitting the area sweep if is your best area move at the time, as you will on occasion loose a mobs aggro due to a triggermans area attacks. Keep the mobs off your poor rifleman, melee attacks are going to be an issue for these guys in the near future, and they will love you for it.

Ohh, and if you are the only melee, and you receive a mind bleed or disease in the middle of a pitched fight, you WILL get hurt. Do your best to make sure any mind DoTs are taken care of as soon as possible, if you drop on an unhealable pool, that set of 5 mobs you were gleefully tanking will attempt to make lunch of your groupmates and all you can do is lie on your back and watch. Make sure if you have a medic that you keep him fully aware of the importance of this, and if you have medic yourself, keep an eye on it.

Envoy I'm not flaming you or anything brother, but you have to break your posts up.

That huge block of words is just too hard on the eyes and too hard to read. Post a few sentences then use a paragraph break.

Makes things so much easier.

One thing I've learned while doign Baz Nitch missions, regarding Moun down time:

Doc buff, and comp armor. I'm waiting for moun downer to end.

Got my min stats at 650 800 800 so when I go down I have 120-130 ish 1 and 1

I can still fight 1-3 (depending on creatures) while waiting to get over downer if I don't use specials.

It's risky and I always have a moun out of crate ready, but I can get exp while waiting. I just make sure I'm in a non-flooded with agro area. With a VL i just peck away at the mobs. i can usually get 2-4 while waiting, which is another 6 -12K

I go for Giant Baz nitches as so far they give the most exp and missions are around 10-11K per ungrouped.
