It is a frustrating Profession. BUT even other Holo-pikes like your self have said its one of the funest ones to play.

One of the biggest problems with pikeman (the biggest to me) is the accuracy.

You flat out miss most of the time. I've been a master marksman, I've been a BH and tonight I'll finish up polearms IV and get master brawler. Pikeman is the only combat profession I've played where I miss more times than I hit. Yes I actually miss more times than I hit.

Slow attacks + constant missing is what makes pikeman frustruating to me.

However just the thought that one day I'll be able to pull off some of the sweetest looking combo's in the game is driving me forward

one thing to keep in mind, when moving up the brawler line. LVA is NOT your friend. stick with the lance for a while, it does get better accuracy then the LVA. Until you get Novice pikeman that is the weapon of choice IMO.

Pikeman : The only class that couldn't hit the ground if they dropped their weapon.
Pikeman : Doing massive damage; to the air surrounding our target.
Pikeman : You're dead meat, unless you happen to be standing in front of us.
Pikeman : Because the devs were one profession short.
DEVs : Pikeman? Thats a class?

Stun is your friend, LVA is a cousin of stun. You need to git with stun first, then LVA will like you.

It's pretty hard, but there's some good advice floating around here. I second the idea that the LVA is a deathtrap until at least novice pike. Even then, you might want to skip right to the vibro lance (only -30ish accuracy instead of -50ish) and come back to the LVA when you get pikeman support 2 and the oh-so-important-you'll-be-very-happy +30 accuracy bonus.

If you're currently a master of some other combat profession that involves combat XP, you can save yourself a LOT of pain if you show up at novice pike with 140K combat XP stored up (you might need to be careful which boxes of your old profession you unlearn in which order to keep from blowing the XP cap). That way, you can get the first two support boxes immediately after training novice pike.

My only other pieces of advice, which I'm sure you know from being a holo hunter, are (a) don't unlearn CH, and (b) wear armor - advanced ubese is my friend.

That is what I plan to do.

Right now I'm moving up polearms by using my LVA to destroy huurton lairs. When I finally train novice pikeman I'll have enough combat xp stored up for the first 2 boxes and use my VL instead of my LVA. ANYTHING to help me hit more.

If I have to make a choice of swinging faster and hitting more but for less damage over swinging slower hitting harder but with more misses I'll choose the former.

I agree, I only use a tank (my pro-bot, heh) in rare occasions, mainly on npc's.
