Thread: Do Ranged & Melee Def Matter?

I was, up untill ery recently under the impression that ranged and melee def do matter awhole lot. But i've heard alot of people saying that in PvP and somewhat in PvE, that they dont matter at all. Does anybody know for sure? because that would be a big help in planning my skills.

I would sure say that they matter. As I understand it Melee and Ranged defenses directly subtract from the opponent's accuracy.. and have you ever tried to hit a master fencer defense stacker as a Master Pikeman with NO accuracy attachments?

low end PVE : yes

mid PVE: yes

high end PVE: NO high end mobs don't miss hardly at all. (krayts, elders, nyax, etc)

PVP: most definitely


+100 is the breaking point. over that great, under that it doesn't help much imo.

+125 is cap


when you are 125 and add air cake or pikatta pie it's wonderful.

High End PVE: Don't waste your time stacking defenses. Sword/Doc or Sword/Pike/Medic are the best solo profs.

PVP: Defense stacking is great against conventional damage attacks, but you will suffer against Combat Medic DOTs unless you have a pocket doc following you around.

At the moment, melee/ranged defense can be skill stacked up to the 125 cap. Then you can add an additional +25 from attatchments. Then boost it even more with vegepersine (melee defense food), and the ranged defense food (forgot the name). All in all, you can get your defenses to about 175+, which is higher than most profession's natural accuracy (especially jedi). TKM's and BH/Carb/Pistol Kings won't have a problem hitting you though since their accuracy is well over 175.

Overall, I don't recommend stacking defenses unless you are a fencer with an uber stun baton and a surplus of docs and cm's to heal you.

Since block is broken, and even if you block you still take damage.. I'd say yes it does matter. because they will miss you more times than they would hit you.

how is it broken? It is designed to reduce damage by 50% and does not stop states.


It sucks, yes, but that is how it is intended to work

to me its broken, im sure its working as intended, but the devs are retarded if they think that blocking something only reduces damage, seems to me a polearm can do more than just reduce damage. but basically what i was getting at is that more ranged and melle defense will definetly help reduce the amount of hits you take

yup, short end of the polearm..


If I recall dodge is the only one that even bypasses states.


counterattack> no damage, but states go through, better toughness than us

block> 50% dmg + states

dodge> no damage, no states, better toughness than us




enjoy,

I still love pikeman regaurdless.

actuly im fairly sure that with counterattack you still take the damage but reflect part of it back to the attacker, at least thats how it worked awhile ago, mite have changed

counterattack is supposed to work this way:


You avoid the attack and counter with an unblockable attack


currently, it works like this:


You just avoid the attack, no damage, c'est possiblé qu'onencore prends l'etats


and block just sux.
