Thread: I hit Master Pikeman today, my final thoughts before i drop it
FIrst of all i'm a holocron pikeman but i did master the profesion and am very effective with the polearms
Overview:
Pikeman may be the best PvE and anti-creature profesion in the game, that being said I can't think of a use for it in pvp, and i've thought hard, that another profesion can't perform better in. Besides the for mentioned pet killing duties.
The bleeds that pikeman can do are off the map, 5k total bleeds by staking 1 and 2 are common, this means that even the feared krayt dragons can be killed by the pikemen.
Role:
Asside from solo pve pikman lack a role. Their claim to fame should be the area KD and Area Dizzy.
After using sweep2 in pvp and pve it is no long hotkeyed because it is too slow and inconsistant. The same can be said for the area dizzy attacks, however these are a bit faster i think, or more accurate they just seemed to work better.
If i were going to stick with the profesion i'd ask for one of two things:
1. Since pikeman is similar to carbineer i'd ask that the pike KD's have there 30 sec reaply timers taken away as the carbineers have had. In effect you can KD at will. With the ham costs as they are and accuracy as they are i don't think this could be game breaking or make the profesion overpowering.
2. Just tell the devs to scrap either the area KD or one of the area dizzy attack, who neeeds two, and replace it with an area of effect bleed attack. This would be really cool i think, and might give the class the definition it needs. Especially since the bleeds can get so big.
Conclusion:
If i was to stop now and not go on with holocon profesions i would stay as i am now, master brawler, TKM and master pikeman.
This set up makes me powerful in both pvp and pve, as well as adding some needed dizzy and kd defence from pikeman that tka doesn't get
I see potential for this class but the dev's droped the ball big time.
1. Pikeman should do the most dmg not heavy swordsman, why? because swords can hit mind pikes can't it's called balance you don't give the biggest hits and the ablility to target the unhealable pool to the same class
2. Pikeman need either more speed or accuracy for pvp, they need to hit with all specials at 1 or 2 sec speed at master or they need to not miss. I"d vote for not miss, no other melee class has to deal with misses at master, at least TKA and Fencer don't i dont' know about swords men but i have feeling they don't have much of a problem.
3. Ham costs, these need to be lowered or dmg raised. I'd say raise the dmg, make pikeman the big hiters they should be. There are ways to deal with ham costs, and you can find nice nightsister lances that have low ham. Mine was 550 dmg sliced 6 sec speed and ham costs were lower then the regular lance, and it was a long vibro axe.
So that is my two cents, i just thought i should say my piece. I will drop the class in the next two days to master artisan, will only take a couple hours to master, then move on to my third holocron. I am debating weather to keep the defence tree ffor the kd defence.
Good Luck,
one more thing the post i read pointed to the scene in "the last samiri" where Tom cruise is knocked of his hores but holds six sword wielding samiri at bay with a spear until he passes out
thought it was a good analogy
hey once you get Jedi come back and tell us how the polearm saber is

The only reason to get Jedi in this game ![]()
on a serious note. You are more effective in PvE with Pikeman than TKA.
If that's the case Pikeman would be the perfect combo to pair with Ranger.
We do need some specific attention. More range would be nice, but the combat developer has stated he doesn't want range to be a "factor" between melee classes and with the latest increase in melee range, I don't think we need it anymore...Our HAM costs are absolutely ridiculous and even with accuracy bonuses, we still have the horrible range mods. Plus, as you stated, we do not have the most damaging attacks, that falls to the heavy swordsmen.
But it's true, in PvE, high-level pikemen are underrated by most.

Or, BE a pikeman Ranger
Accually after talking to swordsman and fencers for an hour while dueling yesterday it turns out the ham coste modifiers aren't the problem, its the weapons.
For example the fencers and swords mens "uber" weapons have sick ham costs aswell, stun baton vibro blade and power hamer.
The difference is they have a choice of using a ham effeicinet weapon, curved swords, gadiffie stick.
We have only the vibro lance and vibro axe to use, and be effective dmg wise. Event the lances ham cost it fairly high considering its stats compare to a 2h curved sword but slower and with out ap2.
yupp, I love my rangernetwork so much

Honestly i might be back,I wanted to drop it today but i couldn't get myself to press thebutton, somthing about thouse huge bleeds grew on me.
I want to go ranged for awhile again then maybe come back to melee once the hype dies down. When i picked up tka, after the kd nerf, there were very few melee at all, now melee is everywhere.
I think it has somthing to do with the fact that armor acually works now, no holes every other hit
I just read another post on this board and thought i'd post it here:
In addition to the AOE bleed pikeman should be able to "Hold back other melee"
A good role might the the Anti-melee, melee class
For example instead of the worthless center of being and block, a "Hold back" skill same funtianily based on a timer that gets longer as you progress that makes all targets get back to 7m or so, out of melee range, and ups the pikemans range to 7m, probably to be fair the pikeman should be limited to basic attacks only and lunges, don't up the range of specials.
