Hello my Pike brothers & sisters and loyal melee classes.

(ROOTED/Stopping Shot/ETC.) Is this ability broken and working wrong in the CU? This is killing the melee profession world greatly! Ranged is now the FOTM and if ranged outnumbers melee 5 to 1 soon, what chances do we have as professions?

I am a Master Pikewoman/Master Swordwoman/Master Brawler/TK-Fencer-FS skill mix. I dueled my ranged friends numerous times. With Power Boost used, improved COB, moun gold, brandy, clothing & attachments, good armor (5000 energy), and a 1921 Energy PSG. At the time my ranged defence was 300+.

Bottom line: ROOTED and shot to death!

Granted ranged should be powerful to match the game balance, but come on! If I am suppose to be skilled in crowd control...what good is this when the crowd is all ranged?

Headache!

on the plus side...


I went out hunting with a ranged friend. We stood about 70m away from the lair. He would sneak up and shoot/pull one creature then run back from the lair and pull them into my melee range. He would them root them, and I would show them the meaning of master pike.


It worked really well.

Yeah, sadly the easiest way to tank is to have a ranged player root something for you. Very effective technique.

I don't mind the rooting. Even in PvP it doesn't especially bother me. It's not really any worse than the things I'm trying to do to my enemy.

Then again I also play a smuggler and I may just be reveling in the joy of finally having effective combat abilities.

Hi all...


I'm master pikes and do understand what you mean ... fighting ranged can be indeed a pain for some melee. I personnally use /follow, i wait until root wears off, /burstrun, sweep attack, armor break and voila! it works very well ... I also try to use LoS in duels and PvP. Besides, if you continuously run CoB and food, you can survive for extended periods of time. If you're a Master Brawler, Parry Riposte is also very nice to use on top of CoB

Well here is a solution where both sides give alittle instead of pulling out the evil..... (shudders)...... NERF BAT!



Root Mitigation, Snare Mitigation, Mez Mitigation, and Paralyze Mitigation.



-At novicemelee you get 10% of the mentioned skills mitigations,


-Eachbranch in your professiongives protection towards a diffrent skill.


-Each Box in that that branch give 5% more mitigation.


-Mastering a melee profession gives you 20% mitigation across the board.



This equals to 50% of the time you should resist these states and 50% of the time they stop you in your tracks or slow you down. There Root and Snare still are effective specials and meleers don't get a total bone.


Oh and the protection is capped at 50%, more then that would get silly.

What the hell are you smoking? Melee was the FOTM before the CU. Ranged was always supposed to be the #1 offensive class, as is seen in all the star wars films (except for Jedi, but that as you know is unique to them only). They've just fixed it to be the way it should be.

What I mean by ranged being FOTM is, that many melee people will dump melee for ranged in the CU now to ride the banwagon. Even after the CU, I still remain melee. The CU is about skill, not choosing the new "everyone" is using it tactic!

Well a couple friends and I got together and did a few duels. Was quite fun. One was Master BH and Master Pistols, the other Master Rifles and Master CM. I ofcourse was the only melee as Master Pike, Master Fencer and Master Brawler.


Indivudual duals. The Rifle/CM he beat me one out of three times. That paralize is a biotch. But, get him on the ground, he is toast. TheBH/Pistols we were even. While I hate the root, and then the ranged kills. The root doesn't last all that long, and then I burst run up to her, knock her down, intimidate, armor break, damage shot, lunge, then more damage. After that she was toast.


Don't knock melee until you have tested your profession/template out. Remember, ranged isn't crap, unless there is a melee there to tank for them.

Rooting is to balance out the fact that melee can run noticably faster while holding a weapon


If you attack a ranged guy out in the open you will probably loose, same as if a ranged guy attacks someone whos melee at point blank. Thats exactly how it should be, also 99.9% of non jedi combat in starwars IS ranged only so its good they finaly realized that



What I find is good is pikeman with pistoleer, so you can slow them down at range and move in with melee and pound them, the only problem with that is your defences and DPS suffers as you cannot be the best you can be in either, but thats the choice you make I suppose.
