I just wrote this in the polls section and thought perhaps it was better as it's own thread... they are just laughable ideas i know but would be kinda cool lol:

Hi, I'm not currently a musician but i'm looking to go into it, also a couple of people are gonna do it at the same time and mess about a bit playing as a band for a bit of a laugh. Admittedly it is for a bit of a holo grind as we are each silent, but after grinding hunting and stuff doing something like having a band sounds like a good laugh and a welcome change to the game play for us

Here are my ideas, and whilst i have read the ideas listed by those who are already into the proffessions i thought i'd share my opinion. NOW i admit my ideas are a bit stupid but at the same time would be great if they could do them:

1. Ability to write our own melodies: now I know this might sound a bit ridiculous and yes i would prolly agree... but with the ability to write our own melodies, individuals or bands could actually seek recognition for their own hard work, by putting together tunes as a band for instance those bands could become recognised in game for having the better made up tunes... afterall if there is no individualism between one master musician or the next then where's the fun in being one when we are playing a community game in which other people from around the world are listening to your music. Imagine yourself and a few band mates would have to write their own individual pieces and play them at the same moment... obivously a tune once written would become a macro to play otherwise it'd become a bit hard to snycronise (and whilst i dont know about syncronising in game i would imagine that looking at the timer on the alarm on ctrl O and everyone starting as the clock rolls over to another minute would be the best way to snyc as surely the clock is set from the server (just my opinion)). But if that band spends a whole day writing a great new tune... then imagine how fun it would be to actually play it for people.

2. Craft tunes: ok, now i know this is getting more complicated lol... but an idea could be that those bands or individuals could sell their music they have writtento individuals... like a CD but more starwarsy! and along with this they can make a CD player which people have to use the cd's on... the benefit of this is that people could then get a mind buff from listening to the music (not as good a buff as listening to actual musicians live though). This would give musicians a great source of income other than AFK mindbots. (The CD's could have a limited number of uses - say 10 like an album) An important addition to writing music is having dancers dancing whilst the music is recorded to highten the quality of the music! This would mean that both Dancers and Musicians can benefit from the sale of an album and that the dancer proffession wouldnt become obsolete, also it'd mean that the CD's could buff all 3 mind pools too!

3. /Applause: Make it so that the individual or band can be applauded (/applaud command from the audience) as a master musician and with each applause their CD recording quality becomes better... I.E. they have a seperate level which they can increase from doing performances... that way the better individual or band that tours more places and gets more applause from people, is then sought after for their CD's as in real life... So it be more like becoming famous inreal life!!!!!! a way of making sure people dont get afk applause could be that they can only play a gig at one venue every 2 hours or so and claim one lot of applause from each person.

4. Charts: Each CD that is used by a player is recorded on the server's so that it recognises when a band or individual's music has been listened too. Each week the chart could be released on each individual server to show the most popular band or individual, just as we do in real life again... and adding to the LimeLight of the whole piece. I mean if u want to be a msuician you want to become famous afterall!!!!

5. Theatre Request: The more successful a band or individual is in the chart (in other words getting the number 1 spot) the more likely they are to be called up to play in a big auditorium by the mayor of npc cities (e.g Coronet, Entha etc.) ... An email could be sent to the registered band leader or individual to tell them when they havebeen requested to play there, if they dont show then it doesnt happen... their loss (maybe be penalised for it by not being asked to play there again for a period). This could happen once or twice a week on each server. The BONUS to make people come and watch these limited and special performances is that they get given a mind buff which lasts for the whole week till the next performance... Obviously this mind buff wouldnt be too amazing but for say 200 - 300 extraon the mind pools (if the individual or band has there own registered dancer they get all mind pools otherwise they just the focus and willpower mindbuff). At the door when the audience enter they pay a fee of say 8000 credits and 6000 credits could be given to a band and 1500 to an individual, this is to make it so that people dont always go individual andband interaction isrewardedto makeit fairer as the money would be divided between the band(the rest is taken by the taxman!!!)

NOW i know my issues are perhaps over the top but in the long term they aren't exactly impossible, they incorporate dancers so that the balance of the elite entertainer proffesions wouldnt be spoilt and more importantly the purpose of being an entertainer would be greatly increased... it would give people the chance to become famous... it would create a world in which musicians or bands compete to get the number one spot so that they can play the large venues and would illuminate their name to the dizzy heights of FAME! lol

I reckon people will prolly say i'm being dumb and all... and that my ideas are ridiculous but this is what i would love to see in the game... The game needs stuff like this to give people the chance to interact on a large scale and to allow people to be recognised for doing their trade... just as the best armoursmiths or weaponsmiths etc are. It'd be great to be in stood in Bestine and listen to people say 'oh you heard so-and-so is playing Coronet this weekend!'. It'd also be great for the community because you would have weekly venue's which would be benificial to individuals as well as have the CD's which help them when out hunting.

I've wrote way too much sorry!

Well, there are some great ideas here. I love the idea of a "chart" and a "fame reward" for playing at a theater for the mayor of Coronet or the planetary governor or something. I would think some of those ideas could be implemented within the current framework of the game.

Some of the other ideas are just as fun but not as likely to be implemented. For example, lots of Musicians have called for the ability to compose our own songs, but the devs have indicated to me that while they fought for this ability pre-beta, copyright concerns precluded it. Even if you just tap out "Hey Jude" on your nalargon in a cantina in Theed, you're arguably making a "public performance" of a copyrighted work, which is an infringement.

Anyway, might I suggest that you condense these ideas and put them in bullet form in my sticki'ed thread on "Big List O Fun Ideas"? That way I won't forget about them when I next present the devs with our latest Big List O Fun Ideas. Thanks!

Fair point about the copyright.

One thing I did think about however to compensate for this is that whilst I can't comment on many other countries i do know that in England for one any written piece of music or other can be shown on TV or publiclyairedfor free as a 30 second clip i believe it is. Perhaps if the Devs simply made it so that the musicians could only write 30 second looping segments at best this could compensate for the copyright issues that arise through this idea. The flourishes could be wot make the tune it's own at the end of the day but there could still be room for arguing a case here... Dunno, anything is worth a go if u ask me!

At the end of the day though as with any things surely a disclaimer could be put on the opening sequence for all to read. By producing a copyright song ingame the user would be breaking the agreement rather than the producers of the game violating any copyright laws.

I play in a band IRL in the UK, and we do gigs in pubs and parties etc.

We only play cover versions, and as long as the venue has a performing arts licence (as most pubs/clubs do) then there is no problem with copyright - we are not playing the original version, just our own performance of it.

Not sure how this works in other countries, but I'm sure SOE could come up with some sort of licence for a 'virtual venue'.

Now that would be cool :-)
