Thread: How do I buff my main with my alt using one computer?
Isn't there a way to go LD for a while without logging out completely? hmm. That would work perhaps with doc buffs. but you have to actually listen.
My thought is that you cant. BUT - there's a lot of tricky people out there... soemone may have figured out a way.
You can, I do it all the time. Keep in mind, this is totally dependant on whether your computer can handle running two instances of SWG at one time...sometimes mine could care less, sometimes one of the sessions will go to a black screen when I switch to it. This mode of gameplay is unsupported by SOE. The worst that could happen (that i've seen) is your screen goes black but you can still click stuff. get used to finding the "logout" button while "blind," heh.
Here's the jist of how you do it:
create a text document in Notepad (or some equivalent very simple text editor) and put this in it with no space between the two lines:
[SwgClient]
allowMultipleInstances=true
save the document as "user.cfg" NOT at a .txt file - rename the entire file so it has a .cfg extension - if you have Windows, you might have to turn off (uncheck) "hide extensions for known file types" under My Computer > click on Tools on the Menu bar > Select Folder Options > click on the View tab and look for "hide extensions for known types" and make sure it's unchecked. If you don't do that, you might end up with user.cfg.txt which has a double extension, which will NOT work. right-click the file and mark it as "Read Only."
Place user.cfg in your StarWarsGalaxies directory - for Windows that's under C:/Program Files/StarWarsGalaxies Folder. just drop the file in there. Fire up your first instance of the game, login under the client and wait until you're in game. do an ALT+TAB to jump out of the game (click on desktop to release the mouse, it can get sticky) and fire up the SWG client again, now login your alt character. to jump between characters, just press ALT+TAB. to get to your desktop, do ALT+TAB+TAB.
to undo this change (if itdoesn't work well or whatever) just go into the StarWarsGalaxies folder and delete the "user.cfg" you put in there. done and done.
Good luck! Hope this helped!
