A buffbot is a character that is running a never ending macro that automatically gives another character a buff.

usually set up in a player city cantina or houses...sometimes camps. Very contraversial. Does a join command to buff passively. I am ok with them, and others are VERY against them. Oftentimes on a second account
Btw, musician buff LENGTH isn't based on skill....the ammount buffed is. a novice musician can buff for 2 hours.

In the context of SWG, a buffbot is a character on a second account, not the player's main character account, that exists for the sole purpose of healing and/or buffing their main character (or guild members, or player city residents). Typically either a Master Musician/Dancer, or a Master Doctor/Musician (on rare occassions a Master Doctor/Dancer).
The problem comes in because people make buffbot characters rather than bother to network with players who do the professions from which they want services. That means that people who want to pursue the 'bot-able' proffesions as their main goal are losing business to the buffbots, both from the people with buffbot secondary accounts, and in a lot of cases most of the buffbots' main's friends, guildmates and player-city neighbors. It defeats the (ostensible) purpose of only allowing one character per server per account (though I think that was a marketing decision, because the bean-counters knew people would do just this sort of thing and thus provide more income for SOE in the form of multiple account subscriptions). Theoretically, people are being encouraged to interact with other players. Realistically, that doesn't happen. You might have a small circle of friends you met while leveling up, but once you get to the point of being in an elite combat profession, you can't be bothered to network for support personnel.
As far as your musician buff goes: the duration of time it lasts depends on how many flourishes you perform over time for the patron. The amount in confers depends on your Musical Mind Enhancement skill. You get 10 points of that at Novice, 65 points in the Techniques line and a final 25 points at Master. The points are reflected as a percentage of the target's Focus/Willpower that is added on. To get more than 100% of the target's Focus/Willpower added onto that base, you need Skill Enhancing Attachments (clothing tapes). The maximum you can have that will actually add to your skill is +25.
