Thread: This isnt EQ(thank god)
I have been reading over the mountain of ideas and complaints that have come up over the abilities of musicians. Some of the ideas are very good. Like the idea to make our own songs, a difference in the sounds of the instruments(because we are all getting tired of the same instrument with multiple names and multiple graphics), more songs, more instruments, etc. However there is one idea that requires attention so it can be laid to rest. Some of you keep asking about in-combat effectiveness for our musicians. Such as our visuals to have effects on creatures. Well, read this carefully. We are musicians, NOT bards. Bards have no place in Star Wars. This is Star Wars, not Evercrap. We dont run around in frilly costumes and equipment we twinked ourselves with, we dont live in a fantasy environment where it takes 20 people to defeat a red. No, we are playing Star Wars. A game where even if there were 100 times the amount of bugs and the servers crashed every 5 minutes, it would still be better than Evercrap. So stop asking for in-combat effectiveness. Musician, not bard.

I tend to disagree here. I dont think any of the posters are asking to be number pounding twisters but some sort of combat effectiveness would be a nice addition to our arsenal. Medics can combat heal H and A, wouldnt be a great thing to have a /shout or a /sing that could do a boost to the mind bar? Musicians were designed to give a roleplayer something to do, but I think even the most hardcore roleplayer needs to get out of the cantina some time. Why not give us something that aids in combat just to make it more balanced? If you choose to be a musician, are you relegated to camps and cantinas for your efforts?

We are not asking for super-sonic run speed... we are not asking for the ability to keep a DoT on a few billion opponents as we kite around them at this said super-sonic run speed... we are not asking for billions of points area affect resistmagic, fire, cold, disease, and poison singing abilities... we are not asking for the ability to charm creatures and beings... 'nor are we asking for items that can change our appearance from anywhere of a halfling to a dark-elf. So please let's not blow things out of proportion.
Sounds to me like you are bitter about bards in EQ being an unbalanced'super class'. Take it up with EQ devs. We mearly want a little bit more usefullness on the fields then we currently do in SWG, not to become some 'super class' do everything all powerful being who plays a mean musical sword out of his arse.

If you want to add some combat skill to your arsenal take up brawling or maybe marksmanship, heck if you want to heal then take up medic. Efective ness added.

And artisans build stuff so wouldn't it be cool if in the spur of the moment they could /build a rebel base to help fortify the scouts campsite?

So use the right mouse button and walk out of the cantina, pick up a gun at the bizzar and have at the combat.

I am first and formost a Musician, after that a rifle man, then an Image Designer (with hopes of hitting Master Entertainer soon). I stay in the cantina for as long as I like then I grab my gun and head out and join in the GCW. The great thing about the character development system is that it isn't classed base. So if you choose to spend all your time working on skills that don't help in combat then that is what you choose to do. If you want to help in combat work on your Medic, or Combat skills problem solved.
p.s. Rather than take my comments as harsh please take them as bitting commentary.
I love using MindShotwith my laser rifleagainst rebel scum. I also like that I'm over half way to First Aid IV. I'm not too terribly pleased that its taking so much time to get Survival XP on my way to Squad Leader. I wasnt whining about being stuck in the cantina because, as open as your charactercan bein this game, I'm not. I'm a Master Musician because it was one of the professions in the game I was most interested in. However, as gamer first, RPer second, I would love to see those abilities add to my combat effectiveness. If you read the other posts on the boards, you seeI'm not alone. If it never happens, then I'm fine with that too. I've still got plenty of points left to work my other skills.
Rather than take your comments as harsh, I'll take them as uninformed and arrogant. So please take my reply as calm indifference, and picture me giving you the finger. Thanks for your input.

Also note that Evercrap, as you call it, is the only reason you are playing SWG. Without EQ, there is no SOE/VI.
Erm, I don't see Verant's name on anything having to do with SWG...and SOE was around long before Verant was, regardless. ![]()
Anyway, it is my understanding that the devs intentionally made entertainers NOT like bards/minstrels... they were never intended to be a class that had anything to do with combat. But look, you can be a master musician and still master a combat class... I don't know why you would have to lump anything in with entertainer. Just start a second profession, you have plenty of points.
Seems to me That you can Heal Action Instantly, andYou can Heal Health Instantly, but You cant heal Mind Instantly. Why is there such a large discrepancy? Did the Devs intend the Rifle to be the PvP weapon of choice? Did they intend the Rifle to rule the battlefield? If they did, then case closed and we can walk away. If they didn't then there needs to be some way to heal Mind points instantly, or ban rifle use in PvP (unlikely).Since Medics (Dr's, Combat Medics) work on H/A, and Entertainers work on Mind, then it seams logical that a Mind insta-heal would go to one of the Entertainer branches.
I Agree with Goste.
As soon as I turn on CNN and see Lenny Kravitz jogging beside a tank column, I'll agree.
But I do agree that musicians could have a bit more crafting wise. Recordings that could be used to heal mind damage would be nice. That solves a lot of problems right there.

I like that suggestion. The ability to bottle up mind stims in the form of musical recordings is very cool.
