Thread: Compositions...

This is an idea I've had for awhile now, and seeing it mentioned in another post just makes me want to explore it even more.

I want to compose songs.

"Wha? Wha?" You say? Allow me to repeat. I want to compose songs.

"But the songs are already composed for you!" Not really. We have bits an pieces of music that we throw together like a DJ on the spot. While this is great and fun for just hanging out and healing in the cantina, what about a concert?

And no, I'm not talking about band flourishes. Sometimes different flourshes on two different instruments at the same time sounds really great! So, theoredically, a band leader could make macros for each of his players. Each flourish would be timed out just right for each player, and all it would take is the band leader starting the band, and everyone hitting their macro. Bam! You have instant band cohesion and beautiful music. While writing the macros would be a lot of trial and error just to get the timing right, the pay off would be well worth it. Both your band and your audience would love it. A talented composer could even sell his compsitions to other bands. Think of it, you're piece of art heard all across the galaxy!

The block with this idea is this. I can't find anyway to share macros. I can e-mail a copy of the macro to each of the players in the band, but then they have to retype it exactly. After all there's no cut and paste command that I've found.

So, any of you fellow musicians have any genius ideas on how to pull this off? Or do you think I'm just chasing my own shadow? I'd like to hear your feedback.

I know actually what you mean, and agree with it

I think there should be a composing system with nodes. Let each instrument have a different number of nodes, and then the real hardcore musicians (I mean in real life), could actually create something beautiful. There should also be a way that you could trade songs... this would also create an aspect of "uniqueness" (don't know if there is anything called that)...

Just FYI, there *is*copy/cut/paste functionality in the game, it just isn't bound to anything with the default keymaps.

Go to the options -> controls -> keymap (I think that's the labels, I'm not in game right now), and under one of the categories is "copy", "cut", and "paste". Ctrl-c, x, and v are already bound to other functions, so I use ctrl-shift-c for copy andctrl-shift-v for paste. Now you can copy out of your macro (I'm pretty sure you have to be in edit mode to select), paste into an email, and your bandmates can do the same in reverse to get an identical macro.

Of course, I'm only willing to do that until we get the composing tool I've been wishing for since launch. Some tool craftable and usable by novice musician/dancer and up (probably master Entertainer too)that let's you make up a full orchestration of macros. At a low level, it'd be just like "/band #". Higher levels would allow for "/band # instrument", and maybe even something like "/band # slither 1", "/band # slither 2" (based on either players selecting which part or on their order in the group). The tool would spit out a number of sheets of music (schematics) that you distribute to your band-mates. Oh, and it would let you listen to the macros as you're composing, too.

Yes, i'm one of those that think a composer option should be implemented in the music tree, so we don't have to have the whole band together every time we need to compose the music.

But for distributing the macros, well it isn't that much of a problem, cause you already got the "/band # instrument" that gives you the whole control of the band. That is how i compose songs atm, but it can be a hassle cause you need more people to be there for you to compose a harmonious song with the diff instruments and floes.
