Thread: Simultaneous Flourish Sequences
My band usually does timed flourish sequences. As bandleader, I say for example "3 6 6 8 2" on my mark. I give everyone about 5 seconds to get ready. Then I say "mark" and we all do the sequence. Halfway through the last flourish in the sequence, I /bandflourish # and we end up with six flourishes performed by band in sync. It's really cool, looks like Motown, lol and crowds love it, especially if you are all dressed in same outfit. It's a lot of fun, kind of Parappa the Rapper-like. Last night we had 6 musicians (2 kloo, 2 fanfar, 1 omni box, 1 fizz) and 8 dancers in group. The cantina was going absolutely nuts. Made lots of good tips (though this is always secondary in importance, at least to me, I much prefer adulation and audience feedback as it feeds my ego, lol). Anyone in band can suggest a sequence, but the same person should call them all the time, because once everyone gets their timing down, switching to a different caller can throw it off. 6 6 3 58 looks good, anything with double 5 in it looks good. Just experiment and have fun. I'm sure a lot of you do this already but just posting this in hopes of helping the musician community as a whole.

Hi, glad someone else is into doing this too
I also made a post in the hopes of getting more intersted in this kind of technique awhile back, never seemed to take off though *grins* I use a slightly different technique where different people lead different phrases, but fundamentally the same thing ![]()

I have a number of reasons I don't like band flourishes, but some people like them so great
There is the standard one that people cite about only the person doing the bandfls gets the experience which is hardly fair on everyone else playing. I agree with this. It won't matter when everyone in the group is a master dancer, but otherwise, not very fair.
For dancers, band flourishes work (not after this patch right now) but not for musicians.
Reason being... SOE screwed up the animation sync on mandoviol, bandfill, and ommni ((I can't verify Nal as I don't play it yet)). To achieve the same flourish as say a horn 1, these instruments have to play an 8. So in a routine where there is a lead 8 then everyone plays 4, 2, 1 if you band flourish 421 it looks completely wrong as the animation is out of sync by 1. If you however all do the manual 4, 2, 1, as 3, 1, 8 hey presto the animations are now correct. Most evident to people with the bandfill, try it and you'll see what I mean. This is my pet peeve that effectively makes band flourishes null and void even for those who made master and don't care about xp. It just does not work if you are trying to do the same animation for looks ![]()
Sometimes when I use bandflourish it works good in the start, but if I make a sequence on 5 bandflourish, then one person will get out of sync, don't know why, but that's why it would be better the way there is stated in the topic...
Glad to see other people do this or similar things. Bandflourish does get out of sync, plus it's no fun. The fun is when 5-6 people all hit a sequence together; it feels like your making music instead of just watching your toon get put through a sequence of bandflourishes. We are going to start a planet-wide tour of Tatooine on Gorath this week (tailor finishing up costumes and lining up a few more dancers). So, if you're in my galaxy, please check us out. Take care and good luck to all musicians!

in case you didn't know there is a way to do bandflourish for each instrument. So those that have the different animations you can sync them up or if some bandflourishes sound better with some instruments you can call them together.
not sure if this is right but it goes something like this... /bandflourish traz 8; bandfill 7
not positive if you put in a semi colon or an apostrophe or something else. ![]()
uh, that should be comma not apostrophe. :/
