hey guys,

i just got master dancer/musician and im wondering what everyone does for buffing. im not the type of person to afk-buff, but i still think the whole process is easier with a macro, so what do u guys do?

im hearing that some people buffing for 6 minutes, some as much as 10 minutes and then i hear4 minutes is possible. whats the definitive answer on this?

the other thing is: flourishes. right now, im set at doing a double flourish every 15 seconds, and im buffing for around 6 minutes, but that doesnt get me full duration.

any ideas on that?

oh and one more thing: when you are grouped with your buffees, do u need to direct your performance, or do u justplay for the given time?

id appreciate whatever input you guys could give a n00b buffer like myself

thx!

Just flourish like there's no tomorrow, that's really all there is to it.

I still have the very simplest of macroes from my days as a musician in training: all 8 flourishes lined up, with alternately 2 and 8 seconds between them (so 2 flo's per 10 second tick, 40 seconds in all, and it's not even looped, because I did it all atk anyway).

When I buff, I just hit that macro 3 times instead of once every 40 seconds or so, and can do the full 2 hour buff in 4 minutes (and that's with an extra minute to be on the safe side, but I have already done it in three).

You'll either need to ask your client to heal your action bar or maybe swallow some accaragm (is that how it's called) to buff your action secondaries, but apart from that it's very straightforward.

I use a macro to buff, the buffing system is unpredictable enough, may as well not add the human error factor into the mess. Find a macro that's reliable, and love that you can buff somewhat reliably at all.

im hearing that some people buffing for 6 minutes, some as much as 10 minutes and then i hear4 minutes is possible. whats the definitive answer on this? It all depends on the number of flourishes. Roughly 120 flourishes yields a full 2 hour or so duration buff. The server now only recognizes 5 flourishes every 8 seconds. At that rate (flourish 5 times, pause 8 seconds) you can fully buff in about 3 minutes 10 seconds.

the other thing is: flourishes. right now, im set at doing a double flourish every 15 seconds, and im buffing for around 6 minutes, but that doesnt get me full duration.

any ideas on that? see answer above - flourish 5 times every 8 seconds, it will eat a lot of action, but you'll do a full duration buff (2 hours or so) in 3 minutes 10 seconds. Ir recommend asking a Doctor for a Quickness buff, it'll let you flourish to your heart's content for 2-3 hours. Sometimes Docs won't split buff packs (only full sets) but sometimes they'll just buff ya cuz you're a musician. Offer them a free mind buff and you'll get your Quickness buff, probably. Otherwise, pay for the full set or look elsewhere for a quickness buff.

oh and one more thing: when you are grouped with your buffees, do u need to direct your performance, or do u justplay for the given time? When you're grouped with a buffee (or buffess) you need not /setperform. All the buffees need to do is listen to you. You buff all members at one time.

Whoa now, what are you doing Music Dev Pro Temp? I thought Devs were supposed to be inattentive, slow to respond, and generally unhelpful and here you've actually provided someone with a worthwhile answer in a timely manner! I just don't think I'll ever understand the inner workings of the Dev mind...

Welcome to the Revolution!

It's time a "Dev" in some fashion or another did something around this profession's little corner of the forums

Glad you found my response helpful

I'm glad one "Dev" is out there helping people. I imagine a real dev's answerwould have been along the lines of:

That's a great question! Rightnow, a player simply has to listen to your music for you to heal their mind wounds and battle fatigue. In thefuture we would like to add the ability for Musicians to buff others, but such a buffing system is not top priority right now as we are busy adding content and other great things in both the upcoming Combat Balance and Jump to Lightspeed expansion.

Not at this time, but maybe some time after the Jedi revamp and Jump to Lightspeed and the combat revamp.

Hey "Dev". Are you quoting company lines or is it policy for the "Devs" to take credit for player discoveries. Last I heard the other devs were saying that song and instrument matter (they don't). The 5/8sec 3:10 is the "Patent Pending Fragpuppie Uber 3:10 Quickbuff". Do I have to sue, or in agreeing to the license every time, does SOE own that too?

Rereading the Buff FAQ, there may need to be some updates there.

All your ideas are belong to us. As well as your first born child. Read the Terms of Service. Also, you owe the Devs, their spouses, friends, and relatives (distant relatives included) an all expense paid cruise to a destination of our choice, to be redeemed whenever we see fit. You are also reminded that said cruise may be substituted for a luxury sedan of our choice, in the event that we change our minds for no apparent reason, irregardless of whether or not the cruise tickets have been purchased or whether they are or aren't refundable.
