Thread: Question abuot band flourishes?
Bandflos do not technically lower the amount of XP others gain, however when you do them they cause all members of the group performing the same as you (music or dance) to do that flourish, and this costs them action. If you are doing many flos in a row, it can also prevent their normal flos going through (and sometimes timing can prevent normal flos).
The main issue is the action. They spend the action and get no credit for the flo. Dancer flos are a ton of action and if you are doing 2 flos in 10 seconds for music, that ain't cheap either.
Bandflos can always be prevented by "/bandflo off", but in general it is not considered good etiquite to use them in XP groups. Even in non-xp groups I ask before using them.

If you bandflo music, dancers do nothing, only musicians.
Worst case is if a bandflo causes a musician to lag and mess up the timing on their flos and only get in one flo inthe 10 second cycle. This could cause music XP to be cut in half. If the same pause happens to dance and they miss their ONE flo in 10 seconds the reduction may be a point or 2 of XP. As far as I have seen, flos do not change the healing XP at all, but as healing XP varies so much it is hard to tell. Going from 120 to 80 healing XP in one tick is common, hell going from 120 xp to 0 happens too on healing. A change in DANCE xp from 102 to 80 is most likely afew people stopping due to action, or people stopping to watchor listen, or....people no longer watching cause the person they were watching stops. Stops are generally due to action so bandflos do assist that situation, but are not the onlypotential cause.
From how you described how often you bandfloed, your action drain was minimal, however it was something and people get crazy about it.

Also, keep in mind that your action/quickness/stamina pools may be different from others. I mostly dance, but sometimes play music as well. I also have other professions, such as TKM. Because mind is so valuable, on my main character I have all of my stats migrated highest on mind, and second highest on action. As such, my action pool drains a lot faster than someone who has all of their action stats on max.
On my other character, when I generated, my action stats were deplorable. I'd have to stop and rest every 5 minutes. I got them migrated to be as high as possible for action and now I never stop. But, I have that luxury at the moment because all I'm doing there is dancing.
But, my point is that even if the action loss is minimal for you, it may not be for others depending on the make up of their stat pools and the other professions that they are working on. It's quite possible that, even as a musician, your bandflos may have a serious impact on other musicians' action pools.
In a group that is mainly concerned about levelling, it's probably a good idea not to /bandflo all the time. It's generally considered bad ettiquette. Though, you may find a group that, from time to time, enjoys a good bandflo every once in awhile. Although, the problem is, because so many people are still hologrinding, most people in a group no longer care about performance, they just want as much experience as possible. So, it's very hard to find a group that's into the /bandflo. I'm hoping that when the hologrind is over more people will want to try out /bandflo'ing more often because they'll actually be entertainers who want to entertain. Until then, it's best not to do it. I do it maybe once every couple of weeks for fun, and I only do it for about 5 minutes at a time because I know how much others dislike it and I have no desire for everyone to get mad at me as I don't really enjoy confrontation. ![]()
I dunno if you're planning to keep musician or not, but if you do, try joining an entertainment troupe if there's one available. I'm in one and we have fun doing the /bandflo thing.
But, maybe after the hologrind is over it will be more common from time to time to find a group of actual musicians that want to jam and bandflo. ![]()
