I'm planning of creating a protest on my galaxy,I advised you to do the same,I wish to show the powerful thoughts of US entertainers, and to prove that we're loyal to the profession and wish to have new content and bug fixes now rather than in a year.

No point. Everyone will just log on their buffbots. We're unnecessary, and no one cares but the few freaks who're still dancing to music no one else can hear.

Hey, Blamj. Tarot has been driven to the point of exhaustion because of the AFK macrotainers. She has played her instruments until her fingers bled and has remained one of Starsider's greatest entertainers. She stuck with live entertainment even after one of the greats, Bluesbakka (formerly Bluesbacca)began going AFK for long periods of time. The Devs have so completely run our profession into the ground it will be difficult to find people to support the protest becausewe have been beaten down time and time again.

One by one spirits are being broken and the Devs are successful in thier task ofdriving one more entertainer away. I understand this, and I understand the need to protest, but insulting someone simply because she no longer believes the entertainment professions have a future is wrong.

She's probably right. How many Devs out there do you think supported the idea of entertainment classes? I'm willing to bet that a majority did not. Someone in power at SOE came up with the great idea of a "wife and girlfriend" profession in order to make more money. They didn't count on ever having to improve upon or devote time to this new class of player, because the only people of importance would be those in the combat and crafting professions. When confronted with the idea that entertainers needed something more, they decided to try to placate us with buffs and promises of future enhancements to the game. Someone down at SOE thought that they could milk more money out of the game if they added entertainer professions. The problem is they also thought that the people who would be playing the entertainer classes would be fourth-classgamers (first-time gamers/women)who wouldn't know crappy service if they got it. ( the first three classes of gamer being: power gamer, casual gamer, teens)

So, assuming this, it does appear that Tarot is correct. The only ones the Devs think are playing entertainers are freaks, people who SOE would much rather sweep under the rug and try to forget about.

What kind of protest do you have in mind, Blamj?

We don't *have* to be unnecessary. Without the buffbots and AFKtainers, we're very necessary. My cure for that situation is simple: delete the macro function. No other MMORPG has anything nearly as powerful as this ridiculous macro function, which comes complete with the ability to fire off recursive macros. We all seem to take it for granted, as if SWG must be played with macros. Well, I played SWG without macros for months after launch, and I had more fun doing that than I've ever had using macros. I guess I'm the resident hardliner on this. Mr. Koster, tear down this macro!

Back to being necessary: a case in point.Tonight I played a fighter all night for the first time in ages. I played a Jedi on TC2. Because people jump me wherever I go, I have constant BF problems. My BF was 750 when I logged. There was nothing I wanted more than to find a friendly musician or dancer and shmooze it up in a cantina. I couldn't find a one! I was missing kreetles because I was so tired. Which goes to another point: most Jedi won't have the ability to heal their own BF. You have to commit to the Force healing skill trees, and that means giving up one of the more glamorous light saber or force trees.

Thanks Tralmek. Yes, exhausted is the word. NewJedi...I really think that's the utter root of the problem: recursive macros. What drives people to using them is that it's friggin' boring not being able to move, being stuck in the cantina all the time. That's why I picked up a big sword for something to do when I didn't feel like entertaining. But entertaining got less and less fun the worse the AFK spammers got, and once AFK buffbots became prevalent...I just gave up. I play to heal my friends and myself when the CMs hit us bad. That's all.

I'd ask what he had in mind, but really...I honestly don't think it'll do any good. I wish I didn't feel that way. I tried.

For what it's worth, I think that an effective visible protest tactic would work as follows:
Crowd the popular entertainer areas (cantinas and such).
Equip an instrument. Ommni boxes and nalargons would be particularly effective I think.
Do not play any music.
Chat. A lot. A silent set of musicians would just get ignored as people move on to the bots.
May or may not want to spam the reason for the protest. May instead only explain when asked.

Just an idea.

While you may very well be right, I for one am just way too stubborn to just sit back and accept that (not criticizing you at all, I understand your feelingsvery well). So maybe these professions will slowly fade away because of lack of attention by the Devs, and a year from now they'll finally introduce NPC entertainers because there won't be any more live ones to heal the combatants (aka SWG's ruling class) battle fatigue anymore.

This may very well happen, and when it does I'm out of SWG, but I don't intend to leave quietly. So if there are any plans for a coordinated protest, post them here and let's come up with something together.

I was thinking of making a post in an "important" forum where the Devs might actually see it. Nothing major, just something screaming in their faces

PAY ATTENTION TO THE ENTERTAINERS!

Anywho, just figured we should make our voices heard. Any suggestions on where to throw this protest thread? I think if we got a ton of Dancers and Musicians to sign it it'd be great. And I have no issues with making it offensive because I'm leaving the game anyway. I just want to go down making sure the Devs actually give the attention where it is deserved.

Hmm...to play off of your idea...why not instead have a protest but show off our positive side?

Congregate in the Theed starport area just like the wookies did. That way, first, you will get more visibility. More people will see us at the starport as opposed to the Cantina. But, then equip your instruments and play starwars1. Play whatever instrument you can, but keep the song at starwars1 so everyone can play it. The dancers can dance basic so that everyone's dancing the same. Do lots of bandflos so that everyone's in sync. Imagine 20, 50, 100 entertainers are more doing the same thing. Not only would it be cool, and show people what we can do when we band together, so to speak. We can even /sing about our grievances. Now, this would be entertainment! And, you'll also achieve the objective of not healing people because we can't heal at the starport. So, we can then show how valuable our services are and how we're needed, but also show how valuable we are from an entertaining/social standpoint as well. Just have a big jam session. Non-violent, non-confrontational, but a *positive* show of strength in numbers. And those non-entertainers who want to join in the protest can feel free to pick up novice entertainer for a day or just stand out there with us clapping and showing support.

If it's one thing I've learned, I think the devs respond more to positivity than negativity. And, if we can spread the word about our grievances this way by putting on an entertaining show, it's more likely we will get the non-entertainers to appreciate us and stick up for us. Again...we're trying for strength in numbers by gaining that support.

Does anyone like this idea? We can put on a better show than the wookies did. After all, we're entertainers.

I sorta like that. The two flaws I see that make me throw my hands up and just want to go out and kill krayts instead are:

  1. lots of non-participants and buffbots making the whole point ineffective

  2. re-inforcing the opinion that those of who would like to follow the Entertainer professions seriously do nothing but use SWG as a chatroom with a graphical interface

Do you honestly think there would be enough support on any server to make an effective statement? I'd create a character on any server to participate with a Novice Entertainer if I don't already have a character there...I just have lost faith that anyone would care.

I dont like buff bots neither, thats why I've a contact list of actually PLAYER Dancer and musicians. My favorite on Starsider.. would have to be Jazzie. She's completely devoted, never AFK. Plenty others there too. Chatting it up with Dancers and musicians during a buff session is a must for me too.I hope they work something out, cause I'd hate to see people like that go. I even have a musician Alt that I get on with and buff sometimes on Kettemoor, and I admitt it's fun at times. G'luck in your efforts.
