Thread: Report from a musical Jedi

Hi folks,

I spent a few hours playing Richie The Jedi on TC2 tonight, and I thought I'd pass on a couple of impressions relevant to us Musicians.

The most important is that Jedi accumulate BF at an alarmingly fast rate. In one PvP battle before I logged, I went fro 0 to 750 BF in about 20 minutes. I spent half the night looking for an entertainer to perform for me because I couldn't find a Jedi to heal my BF. Which leads to another important point: many Jedi don't have the ability to heal their own BF. You've gotta spend precious skill points on the Jedi healing skill line to get that ability, and that means giving up on some other more glamorous Force power -- light saber skills, or attack/defense skills, or Force lightning or Force grip or whatnot. Most Jedi are gonna want to do that Jedi stuff, not heal BF; at least, that's my guess. So I hardly see Jedi putting us out of business. On the contrary, with those huge BF gain-rates, they could be *good* for us.

My other impression is that while I had fun, there are balance and other issues that need work. (E.g., damage is very low with even a good lightsaber; buffs mean most people are very hard to take down; knockdowns and dizzies happen so often as to be very annoying; and I'm not sure the Council advancement system is all that interesting in practice. I mean, my only goal is to duel my fellow Dark Jedi?) The whole experience made me hanker a bit for the cantina, to tell you the truth. Again, I think that's good for us. Jedi are fun, but they're not the be-all and end-all. Players like me are still going to want to play other characters who perform, socialize, or craft.

Incidentally, I had to surrender ALL skills to get my Dark Jedi Knight, so Richie has no entertainer at all on TC2 (though he does have the bades for MM and ME). So I couldn't test the audition code there. But Richie on TC1 still does have Master Musician/Master Entertainer. Is the new audition code on TC1 too?

One other tidbit. My Dark Jedi Knight inherited all his equipment from TC1, so he has a full set of musical instruments. Before he figured out how to craft his light saber, he was brandishing a slitherhorn. There's an image you won't see in the movies: Dark Jedi Knight, in glamorous Dark Jedi Knight robe, wielding a slitherhorn.

NewJedi -

As the Musician Correspondent, I would think that at least YOU'D know that the only instrument to brandish as a weapon is a bandfill.

Sigh.

Sorry about the double post. I wish that I could edit/delete to fix.

Oh, I don't know... The Slitherhorn on Star Wars 1 might be considered a weapon of mass destruction by the empire.

Ah, I must've missed the Musicians' Union Memorandum on Which Instrument to Brandish. The bandfill does have scary-looking spikes and corners. But the slitherhorn has a certain ear-splitting quality on Star Wars I; useful for the aspiring Jedi.
