Just a pure curiosity one...

I've lurked on this forum for a couple of weeks, I'm slowly levelling musician, all ATK... think in a couple of weeks I've reached 1043 or something (running a PA and having a short attention span is keeping me from going any faster...)

I was just curious... to what extent does the musician community feel like we're um... brothers and sisters of the Dancer community, as it were.. I know there's some seperate issues... we have variety gripes, they have borked flourishes... but in generel are the two forum communities fairily closely linked? I know I see the Entertainer correspondant post here quite a lot too.

We for fill the same role in the game, we just have different tools. I would say we are as closely related as carabineers and pistoleer for example.
Of cause our issues are going to differ, as the code for the two professions are different, but we are in the same boat on the bigger issues, such as buffbots, AFKing, interaction with the customers, income depended on tip, and so on.

They aren't really all that different. Plus we are always working side-by-side in the cantinas anyway. It doesn't pay to be critical of your other half. I even consider ID a close and friendly relative, we are all entertainers after all.

I sort of rely on them, and they rely on me to create one great experience for those who are looking for entertainment. If I could play music and dance at the same time, then maybe we could get by without. Yet, I doubt I wouldwant to. I don't see a lot of cross posting from the dancer forums, here on the musician forums, but we all know we can get everyones input and opinions on the entertainer forum.

Personally, I consider musicians and dancers so intertwined, two sides of the same coin, that I wish we didn't have different forums at all. Certainly we have different issues and different mechanics, but we're more alike than not in what we do.

I'm a novice musician, I can play up to waltz, and I have fun doing that. But, my primary profession is Master Dancer. And, I can tell you, without you guys I am not nearly as inspired to dance. I want musicians there to dance to their music. Play a slow song and I do exotics, play a fast song and I'm doing popular2. I follow your lead. I hate going into an empty Cantina and dancing to silence. I need the musicians and I wish there were more of them!

Well, we entertain people, though, personally, i consider musicians greater than dancers, since pleasing sounds are harder to come by than pleasing dances. Take starwars 1: It can be made better by some ingenuity onthe part of the musician despite its general horrid sound. Dancers on the other hand avoid the dances they do not like.I also generally find dancers to be a bit more stuck up, but thats just me, while i'm a lot more eccecentric than almost all of them

Oh boy.

I'm going to completely resist the urge of caving into a dancers vs. musicians debate here. That's the last thing we need right now.

I post pretty regularly over in the Dancer forum, and I agree, the issues are quite similar. But our interests are different enough to warrant separate forums.

Some examples: We buff secondaries while they buff primaries; that means they see the recipient's blue bar increase, whereas we're left in the dark. Thus the buff UI tends to be a bigger issue for us. They fall; we don't miss notes. They have flourishes that don't look right; our flourishes may have sound issues, but animation isn't a big issue for us. We use entertainer droids differently. They have many more concerns about inappropriate comments from audience members; that's not nearly as big an issue for us.Our lighting effects are different. We have music crafting, they don't. We worry about placing ommnis and nalargons on theater stages; they can perform (though not heal or buff) there normally. We fuss about new songs and instruments and sounds; they want new dances.

Hehe, I set up about 100 nalargons in the middle of the Dancer forum just for fun. Panthu is vowing revenge.
