Hi guys and gals,

As many other entertainers here and there, i've got a problem with this credit dupe alert.

I'm not really an afk'er but i must admit i use to get off keyboard from time to time (eating, taking shower, you name it) staying in game mainly because i have such aslow computer it takes me 3 mins to log out and a good 5 to log back in

Anyway, i was tipped (no bank tip) 2.000.000 million in one shot during lunch time yesterday. I'm a fairly new musician, and i REALLY doubt someone found my show so spectacular that it would deserve such a huge tip. Well, the fact is that i didnt notice it at first (i dont check my inventory so often) and only discovered that much later in the day, making it totally impossible (as the cantina was crowded and spammed by people asking for an invite or heal) to track back from whom this tip came from...

Now..what should i do ? I'm quite broke (this is a new toon on a new server) so i'd gladly keep that cash...but well, as many others i'm quite scared right now. I thought about contacting a csr. But i know some are very kind, some arent at all and i feared he would just tell me "you have been involved in a dupe blah blah, this account will be banned forever and you will rot in hell" :-) But if i keep it or spend it, it might happen aswell

*shakes head* What's your take on this ?

My suggestion is just talk to a CSR about it.... if they really try to do anything to you about it it would be a publicity nightmare, as well as encourage others to be dishonest.

The CSRs have released a knew Knowledge Base entry to deal with this issue:

Q: What should I do if I received duped credits?

A: Thank you for sharing your concerns regarding this matter with us. If you were not directly involved with the credit duping or the trafficking of duplicated credits then no action will be taken on your account. If you have received an amount of credits that you believe to be of a duped origin, please tip these credits in game to SOE-Collector. If you do this via bank transfer, you should subtract the 5% bank fees from the credits you are returning to avoid cost to yourself. The amount of the fees is 50,000 credits for every million that you are transferring.

Note that the test is whether you "believe" the credits to be of duped origin. That test is roughly consistent with real-world legal norms for receiving stolen property, which typically ask whether the defendant either "knew" or "believed" the property was "probably" stolen. If you believe the credits were probably duped, you should follow the CSRs instructions and transfer them to SOE-Collector, deducing the 5% bank transaction fee. If you don't believe the credits were probably duped, then the CSR's statement indicates you should be fine.

This whole thing is infuriating! Bad enough we have to work for tips (don't get me started on entertainer missions) now we have to feel guilty and on edge about getting them. GRRR! Stupid people cheating and ruining it for everyone!

Thanks..I feel better now.

Duping just stinks. It's the bane of MMORPGs. It hurts virtually everyone but the duper.

At leastthe devs say they've fixed the dupe and identified the dupers, so presumably this particular incident won't have long-lasting effects.

I doubt that you could be banned for receiving tipped duped credits if you did not even have any interaction (conversation in spatial or tells) with the person who tipped you. I would guess if you had received them and they track it back, they would just take them back. It is not like someone can refuse a tip!

And if someone legitimately has a huge amount of money and is leaving the game, they do sometimes randomly tip people. When I first started, I got a holocron, weapons and 50k from a player who was leaving and noticed I was a noob. So it is not out of the question that the player that tipped you did not legitimately obtain the money!

I would keep my mouth shut if somebody I dont know sent me 2million credits. If you do not know that person how would you know if it was duped.

Here's what I would have done:

Not make this post!

Then, if a CSR talks to you, pretend you are un-aware of the credit dupe.

I woulden't return them unless you're asked. no way to really know if it was legitimate or not.

Sad that duped credits and resurfaced. I would follow the CSRs advice and tip them.

Exactly. Since the Credits are "traced" and those credits will eventually either dissapear (they are removing duped creds), your account will eventually be flagged and marked as banned. Since you don't take the apropriate action, they'll assume you might be in on the dupe and leave you banned till you provide them with suitable reason not.

If you spent more than you had without the duped creds, yes, you are screwed. tip those creds back to the collector.
