Jedi, Jedi, Jedi........

The word now almost brings brings a snarl to my face. I admit I wanted to be a Jedi, the entire "Guardian of the Peace in hiding" thing appealed to me. And of course as one of the people that got to see one of the limited screenings of the original movie when I was a child, I of course, grew up playing pretending and wanting to be a Jedi. But now.....I don't care anymore. The only motivation for me to become force sensitive is to get a second character slot, which I wanted initially for "my Jedi".

I understand that the Developers have to cater to the majority of their playerbase, but we Entertainers, like it or not, at least for now, are still very much needed for our ability to heal fatigue and mind wounds. And of course the ever controversial buffs.

I wish that we could have had some input into the jedi system from the get go, but alas that was not to be. So now we must do the best we can with what we have.

My vision for being an entertainer when I started playing the game, besides the fact that I liked to entertain people, was to be a sort of intel gatherer. I mean I am very, very neutral as I think creds from either side can be spent just the same. I wanted to be the "guy" that a smuggler or even a bounty hunter could come to to ask some questions of a particular character, for a fee of course. And no one would be the wiser ( hopefully for me ). Isn't it possible for the game to flag us entertainers as spy net operators, if we wanted? And let, for now, a Bounty Hunter, come to us to learn some tidbit of info (Given to usas a sort of system message that we have to verbally pass on )on a Mark?

I have more thoughts but its been a really long day, not to mention the last 6 days So I am going to shut up now. Please let me hear your thoughts and lets get a discussion going if your of a mind to.

May the Force ( Or lack of ) be with you!

To be or not to be........

If I want a "combat fix" I will wait until JTL and go blast stuff in my ship.

The problem I have with ever being a Jedi, is that it seems sacriligeous. There are way too many, and it is not the generally accepted story that there are hundreds of openly obvious Jedi in the galaxy. Therefor, I am unwilling to add to that.

I don't havea burning desire to be Jedi. In fact, I've yet to go out of my way once to be a Jedi. The whole reason I'm going to do the Village is to get a free character (going to make him a chef so that I can do all cantina-related activites in my cantina).

Right now I am more than happy to be a Musician/Entertainer/Dancer/Pikeman (and soon to be Image Designer). For me, being able to play Virtuoso on the Mandovial, dance Poplock, and ID myself for roleplaying is much more gratifying that swinging a lightsaber around with my "leet" force powers. Besides, swinging an Energy Lance is still pretty cool

But if by some slim chance I happen to get Jedi, I'm going to do everything in my power to do it "right." Roleplay constantly, actually unequip my Lightsaber in public, only wear those Jedi Robes in combat, and generally stay away from public areas.

After all, if you want to fix it, go out there and get started.

Cudayn, I love what you wrote above. I'm also a TKM, and I don't often post to those forums because in general, TKM's seem to be working just fine, so I just lurk there and don't really post my thoughts on things because we TKM's have it pretty good and I don't feel the need to complain. But, the reason I bring that up is because a recurring theme among TKM's is a desire for end game story driven content in the form of "keeping Jedi in check," which is a theme in TKM lore. Not as bounty hunters, but just as a profession that maintains a balance of power in the universe.

And the reason I bring *that* up is because I see a general "link" in regards to high end story driven gameplay. In my dreamworld, after the buffbots are gone, the bugs are fixed, and we're given other cool things like props and new songs and real quests, and the Hutt Casino, we'd start to get into a deeper role within the world. As much as I'd like to see TKM orders with politics and intrigue, I'd similarly absolutely love to have something as you described added to the entertainer professions as well. I've thought of similar things as you've posted sometimes as I'm drifting off to sleep or I'm bored. But, with most cool ideas I usually don't bother posting them or bringing them up because the ideas are just so cool that I would get excited talking about them only to be let down because I know that if they ever happen they are YEARS down the road.

But, I've always loved the idea entertainers being spies, or being procurers and sellers or information because of our natural ability to make contacts. I'd love a world where people come to us because we've overheard something, NPC or PC generated. Right now, you can sort of do this if you've got the backing of a good roleplaying community. But, I'd love to see this kind of thing expanded by the developers. I wish we still had story arcs, I wish the entertainer role in these story arcs could be information gatherers. That would be incredible amounts of fun. One of the basic level things I have always enjoyed as an entertainer is being able to tell someone where they can find good clothes, vehicles, houses, telling people what they can expect from the Corvette, things like that. While not as exciting as being a spy, it's the same general idea. I'd love to see this kind of thing expanded dynamically for entertainers (and similar types of ideas such as orders for TKM, and other things for other professions that I'm not as familiar with.) I'd love to see the Cantina be a true vibrant place where smugglers come in and /whisper if people want to buy any spices, a place where people come in to make deals and share secrets. I'd love to see ID's able to "disguise" others for covert operations.

A pipe dream, I know, but fun to think about.

As for the whole Jedi subject, I'm unsure what I want to do. The fact of the matter is, I was not at all willing to hologrind for two reasons. First, I didn't want to ruin my template because I wanted to play a character. And, second, the grind itself seemed awful. Now, in most respects, the template won't be ruined. But, the grind is apparently worse. Who knows if I'd even have the staying power. However, the village and the quests seem like intriguing concepts. The idea of getting jumped by Sith, even if they are weak seems pretty cool. I don't know if I'll pursue Jedi. But, I suspect I will definitely pursue Force Sensitivity. And, it sure as heck won't be for the extra mind wound healing that I won't need. It'll be to do something fun and explore the new content and quests. And, of course, opening up a second slot would be nice as well. One thing I haven't really tried in this game is crafting, and I think it would be fun to pursue that. No matter what I do, I can't see myself ever not being an entertainer on at least one of my characters. And I hate the thought of Drygo not being a dancer. I mean, that's what he is. If I had the stamina for it, I might consider unlocking and having my 2nd character be a Jedi. But, I dunno. It's all up in the air at this point. I just like having the extra options and the extra content to play around with. Between the new Jedi quests and Jump to Lightspeed, I suspect I'm going to be even more addicted to this game than before.

I too was unwilling to change my template not onlyto follow the "Path to Enlightenment" but because I just love my character as he is. Durney is my artistic character and there is a sort of freedom I have when I play him. I mean I have a freedom to not (Thats debateable since I do have a character I make my money with ) just be another "combat monkey", I have been there and done that in almost every other game I have ever played.Thats why I absolutely love the entertainers in this game.

But we need more content, and not even the Devs will argue that point. We unfortunately, just have to wait. I mentioned it in another post, but I will say it again here too, if we were given some due time for content, if we could make more money as a "Pure Entertainer", then we would be a thriving class. We would have people happy to be entertainers because they could make a good "living" at it while still having lots of fun. That in turn would promote a much healthier social atmosphere for us to interact with the other classes, which for them would be more fun because they would be engaged by us more.

I deeply believe that if they made entertainers more rewarding, that it would enrich the entire game because all of the social classes lend themselves to the entire backdrop of SWG and that in itself leads to a more fulfilling, and immersive experience for every single person playing the game, roleplayer or not.

Oh, and I am so looking forward to JTL. Maybe I can make money in space to support my habits on the ground?

I'm not sure what I'm going to do, either. I played a Dark Jedi Knight on TC2, and it was kinda fun, but I kept asking myself whether it would've been worth months of grinding. I'm not sure the answer is yes. I want to try the FS quests just because they sound fun, but I guess I'll be using my Politician/Commando rather than my Master Musician/Entertainer. I may end up more interested in JTL. Or I may just end up hanging out in my city cantina and schmoozing, which is what I most enjoy doing right now.
