Thread: I Dropped Master Musician

It was not easy. I'm going to miss my Nalargon an awful lot.

But, I'm learning it again on Bria (I usually play on Starsider). So I'm just dropping Master on Starsider - but I'm planning on being 0/0/4/0.

My plan is to make a pure Entertainer character on Bria - I'm Warryyr on Bria, as well.

Why, you might ask?

First off, I find the Bria live entertainer crowd to be a lot of fun. I decided to make an alt on Bria for the Cantina Crawls, but I've found myself enjoying the company while there an awful lot.

The single greatest motivationis that my alt had Master Merchant, and I do some crafting, so it only makes sense for me to have control of the vendors. There was a lot of run-around involved. It got difficult keeping track of where my merchant was versus where my crafter was. It will also free up at least 47 skill points on both characters to do with as I please. I also wanted to create a pure Entertainer character on Starsider, and try my hand at more complex Dancing, and Image Designing. My alt, who is a Merchant now, will soon be a pure Entertainer on Starsider, and I'm very excited about it. He shall remain anonymous, because well, it's a whole lot of fun to RP another character while people have no idea it's still me behind him.

I think my Merchant template will be 4/3/0/4 on Warryyr (Starsider).

I think with that setup, I can still learn Musician again, but only Musician 0/0/4/0. And that suits me just fine. I like to play Music, I'm not necessarily into it for the buffs or the credits.

I'm looking forward to no longer dealing with people walking into a cantina, see me standing there with a Master Musician tag,and spamming, "WOOKIE BUFF ME PLZ THX!" "WOOKIE! BUFFS NOW!" "WOOOOOOOOOOOKIE!!!" "HELLO YOU STUPID WOOOKIE BUFF ME NOW I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS! HELLO!?!?!?!?" with a billion /tells also - while I was AFK for 2 minutes to go to the bathroom or get a drink. My response to this type of person was typically "It's Warryyr, not Wookie. And it's Wookiee, not Wookie. If you can calm down a bit, and ask me nicely, I just might buff you after all the spam you just sent my way." This usually made em laugh, apologize, and calm the **edit** down, heh. Though if it got too abusive, I'd just /addignore and run along on my merry way.

I will very much miss buffing the wonderful friends and acquantainces I've met across the galaxy. I must admit it's rather liberating to be in a cantina, and not having to deal with that whole buffing thing. I just play tunes to enjoy myself - just like before, but without being hassled for a buff. I may focus on Mos Eisley, showing those new players how to really perform, and cautioning them against the Dark Side of buffbotting and AFK'ing lol.

I considered leaving me at Musician 0/0/4/0 as I dropped my skills, but then I decided to do it all over again. I am now a Novice Entertainer. I love playing music, and it's not really that bad to get yourself to Musician 0/0/4/0, it just takes some time, which is all you really have in this game - what fun is this game without some kind of goal to achieve. No post-Master content makes dropping your skills and relearning them fun - but it's sort of too bad that it's that way.

Anyhow, enough rambling, but I thought I would share my recent decision. I'm looking forward to a little change to my game, having a couple pure Entertainers to have fun with, and keeping Warryyr's focus on playing some tunes, not necessarily buffing. And now the stuff I sell can be managed sooooo much easier, that'll be wonderful.

I hope this does not affect my standing as Musician Dev Pro Tempore

Sad to see you dropping, but the fact your remastering on Bria is awesome (Disclaimer: I am biased...).

Buffing isn't what the profession is about and it never should have been. I remember the pre buff days, we had no obligations. I don't buff anymore except for close friends and guildmates. It isn't worth the hassel or the effort of competing against the buffbots which seem to be everywhere on Bria.

Starting again as a virtual noob, which I've been doing via cross-server visits really redefines the game. Once you've mastered once you know what you get at the end and the journey, not the destination can become the focus. It is liberating to start over. We all need a break from time to time. Best of luck to you in this endeavor.

And as for it effecting you standing a Musician Dev Pro Tempore...it's not as if we actually expect the devs to play the profession they represent, that would be asking to much. All they are required to do is sit there, eat donuts and give by the book responses.

*phew*

It was so hard to actually type in the letter "y" in the confirm skill drop box. After I did it, it felt like I put a hole in my heart. But I knew I could get back up there if I really wanted to, so I felt better. I still have minor freakouts.

I really really need to get my Musician skills back up so I can learn the Ommni box again. I have a DJ booth in my guild's cantina, with turntables and everything - playing the Ommni box makes it look like I'm spinning some records, it's cool. I won't be able to do that again for a little while.

I hate to admit it, but honestly, the Jedi system brush off that we got was a contributing factor in this. It made dropping the buffing trees rather satisfying.I'm sorry, I know the vicious circle we get into where buffbots take away our business, we get discouraged and stop buffing, more buffbots are made to accomodate, etc. But, it's not right how much the playerbase throws hate and indifference our way, demeans us, says any improvementsfor us should be cast aside for "more important things," yet happily get in line for a mind buff when they need it and FREAK OUT if we can't buff them immediately upon demand. It's not right they get all the benefits, while we get brushed off. I like helping people, but I most certainly do NOT like being taken advantage of. And well, I seriously think we get taken advantage of in this game.

It was also eye-opening to see how many players in the Development forums don't, quite frankly, give a crap about the development of a lot of professions, Entertainers included. There were quite a few comments regarding how we don't really play the game, we don't do anything, etc. It's really sad to see that mindset, and nothing has ever been done to improve our standing in the game's social structure. There were some great folks who came to our defense, and it make me feel exceptionally happy to see that. But, by and large, I don't understand the negative attitude (and negative is being nice) that so many combat players have towards Entertainers - we help them. What's their problem?

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to getting to know the Bria crowd better, and as you said, starting the journey again. It's a lot of fun, i like playing music, dancing, and ID'ingmore than buffing, so I'm really enjoying where my characters are headed.

Unfortunately, I do NOT enjoy not using my DJ booth (I called it a Warryyr Rack Stratomaphone, some name my friend came up with, for a fictional instrument that involved various scraps of different instruments. It was a Photoshop doctored image, it was hysterical to imagine someone on a stage playing whatever that thing ended up being). I really need to focus on getting that Ommni Box back

I know how you feel about the Ommni, Warryyr . (I don't know if you know about my penance).
For me it's been the ability to make instruments that's driving me crazy (though because of an upcoming wedding I'm performing at, I need to focus on the music knowledge branch to get up to Waltz). I get really sad anytime someone asks for an instrument I can't make yet .
Anyways, I'm sorry to hear you dropped, but glad that the experience will bring relief to you.
Much luck to you with this!

I agree, not being to make instruments anymore sucks

I had plans to make an alt on Bria for some time, as I'd really like to join a cantina crawl one day. So chances are we'll meet sooner or later

Have fun, whatever you do - that's the only thing that counts

Sheesh,

The title to the post made me think you had throw in the towel!

I am glad that you are pursuing a full entertainer character. I can tell you that it is very fun, but it won't pay the bills if you are like me. * Mutters about his 30k shopping spree just last night* If I didn't have a second account with my lil' Bothan Dunk to help make money for me, I would have to wander around wearing the same old clothes all the time. The shame in that!

Its sort of funny that my second favorite character is not himself a "hardcore" ( Can I say that?) combat character. He is a Master Creature Handler, Master Ranger and all the rest dumped into Medic. So he can't make money fast, but he is great to go exploring with

But anyhow, I for one vote for ya to keep yer sig. You will be back as a Master soon enough anyhow. Have fun playing with your crafter, I am sure you will like it too

May the wind always be at your back...

But at least your not dropping out all the way... I should work on my bria character a bit more as one of these days I'll be able to hit a Crawl.
