I'm working up through musician to be able to play more tunes and instruments. I'm having a blast actually entertaining in cantinas and work regularly with a guild member who is a dancer. We make quite the pair
I don't have the skill points to master musician and entertainer so I'm wondering if the song and instrument you get as master entertainer or as master musician is more fun. Is the song for master musician better than the one for master entertainer?
I make my living harvesting creature resources so this isn't for income and I'm not interested in giving the very best buffs although my guild wouldn't mind me doing so
I'm really doing this to entertain and have fun but I want to do the best performance I can given the skill points available. If I master entertainer I won't be able to do more than music knowledge 4 and two boxes in the two healing columns, no instrument crafting. If I master musician then I won't have the points for any dance and ID, not a big deal except for that song and instrument at master entertainer.

As much as I enjoy the Nalargon (MM), and as impressive as it is to be playing one, I do prefer the Mandoviol (ME), not only because it has a unique sound, but also because relatively few people have seen one played. It'sa great conversation starter. Lots of people also enjoy the song Ceremonial (ME)more than they like Virtuoso (MM). So based on that, I would hands down say you should master Entertainer. The reasons for mastering Entertainer over Musician are compounded (in my mind) when you say you aren't interested in buffing.
Another thing to consider is that you can always buy a playback droid to fill in the voice of the instrument you don't have. In this case it comes down to which song you prefer/which instrument's appearance you prefer.

Sorry, another thing to keep in mind. Rumor has it that Musicians will be receiving a stringed instrument soon and it will have a sound unique from Mando. So...yeah. Just something else to think about. I'd still go with master Entertainer at least until I saw what the new instrument was all about.

Any serious musician has both. It's the only way to get every song and instrument - These are the things that matter most haha!

While I agree that the only way I can perceive things is to get both, if I absolutely had to choose I'd pick the mandoviol/ceremonial over the nalargon/virtuoso. I love my mandoviol, and don't know what I would do without it. The nalargon is pretty cool too. I do very much like ceremonial, and am not a huge fan of virtuoso.
So that's my 2 cents.

The Master Musician knows all the songs and instruments available, and has all the tools to put on a professional performance.
- Mouseover text on the Master Musician box
The Master Entertainer has a strong knowledge of all forms of entertainment and can specialize in one or more advanced entertainment professions.
- Mouseover text on the Master Entertainer box
What part of all the songs and instruments availableare the devs not clear on? This has always bugged the hell out of me. Personally, I'd go Master Musician and demand a change, new instruments/songs on the way or no.

Lantus,
Yes, the wording is very annoying. I wish a Dev would take 10 minutes to fix it one day, but alas, us Entertainers are always on the back burner, just left to stew in our own juices.
I do not however advocate for the removal of the Mando from ME, as it is a Class defining instrument. I can't think of another class where you can use an item and immediately be seen as a Master, without even having a Master Tagon. I am proud to be a Master Entertainer and I love my Mando. I can not even forsee anything that would make me drop either one as I have been an entertainer from day 1 (2).
I was totally against Musicians even getting a stringed instrument, but i changed my mind after reading a lot of good ideas posted here on the boards. One of the ideas was for a VibroHarp, but we never even heard back on that idea.
To Lytefoot........If I were you, go for Master Entertainer, and play with it while going up the Musician tree, and if you really enjoy it, just take the Knowledge and Techniques trees so you can buff and play all but Virtuoso, which IMHO is not that great a song unless you have 5 masters playing together, then its pretty cool, otherwise you can just have the healing and music line from Entertainer and be a Master Musician. I think you can get a good feel for if you will like ME just going that route first. If you don't like it, you have not lost anything, but rather gained personal knowledge first hand about the workings of Image Design and Dance.

I also like having Master Entertainer. And yes, the mouseover text for Master Musician is annoying. I've mentioned it to the devs every now and then; nothing's been done about it.

As others have commented, the best way to answer your question is to try it out yourself while you have the extra skill points. It sounds like you're also a Master Ranger, so you would be 30 skill points short of mastering both Musician and Entertainer as well.
I have both Master Musician and Entertainer, Master Fencer, and 18 skill points to spare... I might use them for Dance Knowledge 3, but for now I'm switching between novice scout and medic for convenience, heheh. It all depends on what you want to do , what's fun for you.
Dance with your guild friend awhile and knock out some image design when you can, give Master Entertainer a try and see what you think.

Absolutely true. With my experience as being both a Master Entertainer and Master Musician, I would say that given the choice between the two I would have ME over MM. But that's just my personal choice after playing both. If you can, try one and then the other...see which one fits you best.

Thanks everyone! I see its pretty clear and I'll definitely give it a spin. Its going to be odd to see this grizzled old hunter dancing but we all learn new things daily
I'm not a ranger but I keep enough scout to harvest the creatures my rifle brings down. I can't quite give up my source of income yet, I have this lovely young Twi'lek dancer to support
I appreciate the advice and if you are on Corbantis I hope we can jam someday. I've been composing a few songs for my lady to dance to and its a great deal of fun.
