Thread: We definately need a way of telling if the buff was successful or not . . .

I always make them disarm, then I can always see them clapping for me. That tells me they are watching. Then, I set performance, do my thing, and tell them to stop watching or listening. If they say it didn't work, I ask if they are still listening, if they say no, I check the logs. If I set performance, it's my money.

We do need a better buff interface. We shouldn't have to guess at whether our target has been buffed or not. I have asked the devs for this innumerable times. The best they've done so far, months after the buff went in, is an icon on the HUD of the listener -- but nothing on the Musician's HUD. <sigh>

I will shortlypost about this, and the absence of a self-buff, in the Correspondent forum.

Yeah, it does stink not knowing if your buff was a success. It did cross my mind that I could have a scenario like yours from someone who wants to play around with me and say he didn't get buffed. Hopefully, there will be a change in an upcoming publish.

I was asked for a buff the other night, and spent 20 minutes buffing the character, only to be told that there was no change. So, I did it again. Again he said, no change. I aplogized, and a friend, who is a dancer, offered to buff him for free. Later, he left. Somewhat later, she mentioned to me that she had asked him what his secondary mind stats were, and he had refused to answer her. I had told him to pay me what he felt it was worth, being new to buffing.

Given that he refused to answer her question, there is a strong possibility that the first or second buff were in fact successful. But I have no way of knowing for sure.

NOT a good situation.

However, the next time he asks me for a buff, I will answer, "I would not want to waste your time again, given the results of the last attempt."

If you're not grouped with any other entertainers...

Make sure you aren't capped on healing xp. Drop master and a box or two of healing to use it up (Or pick up novice dancer if you've got the xp and get trained in the dancer healing lines to suck up xp)

Start performing but don't flourish yet. You will see a small but steady trickle of healing xp coming in. Master level performance (Virtuoso or nalargon) this will be 7xp every 10 seconds. For lower level performances it will be lower. However, it will be constant. If they have mind wounds/bf, there should be 3 lines of healing xp every 10 seconds, the third will be this steady xp. You get that much for every person you're buffing. So if you're buffing a full group + 1 setperform (20 people) you could be seeing up to 140 healing xp per tick.

The reason not to flourish is this goes away rather soon after you start applying the buff. Basically, when this goes away, they've got the full effect of the buff, but not the full duration.

Just be careful that this isn't from some other source - for example someone else in your group listening to you and getting the group buff, or another entertainer in the group buffing someone.

Pay attention to thier mind bar(the blue one) . When they stop listening or watching.. you will see it raise. That means the buff worked.

Ummmmmm

If your mind bar shows you Focus and Willpower......I'd love to be playing the version of the game you are.

I have been able to see an increse in the mind regeneration rate....if the person has used mind during the buff...if they are in fact regererating EXACTLY when they /stoplisten...if I happen to be looking RIGHT when they /stoplisten...if they don't happen to /stand when they /stoplisten.

For 95% of buffs, these factors do not come together so there is no way to tell.

BTW I have not had people lie to get out of paying for the buff, but I have had people lie to say that they didn't get one so that they can bank a second one.

If they try to do that, just don't stop playing. As long as you are playing it won't work.

Not always an option...I stop and start all the time. Mostly because I am not a machine.

Plus, are you sure that that inhibits the bank? I have done marathon buff stretches with requested banks and no stops and I have not heard of the bank not working.

More to the point....What is your theory as to why not stopping will not allow the bank?

I wish I knew what the variable is that makes a listener stop listening when they run out of range. You know how sometimes, if you've buffed someone and they don't type /stoplisten but just run out of range, sometimes it'll make the buff hit and sometimes it won't? I'm not **edit** enough ti figure out what the determining factor is.

If someone has an active musician's buff, and they were trying to 'store' one, you have no way of knowing if they stopped listening when they ran out of range until the active buff dies and you type /stoplisten after that. If another one hits, it worked...if not, then it didn't.

But it's the whole running out of range equalling /stoplisten that make a 'stored' buff not work sometimes.

I personally am glad it's possible. It almost makes up for our not being able to have any variable control over strength or duration of our buffs, where doctors have an immense amount of control over both of those factors. Almost. Not quite.

In case you missed it, buff issues are the "#2 issue for Musicians"in this quarter's Top Five issues for the devs. (Yes, this "quarter": the devs seem to have in mind quarterly top fives now.)I crammedseveral buff issues into one "issue": self-buff, buff interface, buff speed.

I ran into the weirdest bug the other night, thought I should put it somewhere you would hopefully see it, NJ.

Ok, we were buffing up in a hotel. We do this a lot. It was around dinnertime, so several of the other groupmembers were AFK. One had a Center of Being macro looping to keep her online. She hadn't done /stoplisten yet, so she didn't have the extra Focus & Willpower to keep affording the CoB. So, when she got down to no mind and the CoB wore off...she popped into attack mode. Just for a second. And that made me stop playing! Or dancing, for that matter. Drove me nuts. Of course, I'm not observant enough to have figured out that's what was stopping me (or maybe it's just 'cause I lag like crazy), so one of the other guys in the group pointed it out.

It's weird, 'cause I'm not totally sure attacking something while listening to me makes me stop otherwise. I've not really done a whole lot of messing around with that, though. It sure as hell doesn't present a problem in PvP...my groupmates can listen to me while they're fighting just fine and I keep playing. So maybe it's something about being at no mind and a state or special wearing off that throws you into attack? I dunno. Thought I'd say something, though, since it was pretty weird.

I might get around to submitting a bug report. /sigh I've no faith that they're paid any mind, especially when it's entertainer issues, though.
