Thread: Re-sample Percussion already!

The life of an entertainer/dancer/musician can be an enjoyable one. HOWEVER, the anti-rhythmic break in percussion at the beginning of each measure makes me mute my sound!

Has anyone else noticed that, whenever you have a Bandfill or Omnibox in the band, there is an unnatural feeling to the music? That would be the restart of the percussion loop. It's off-beat, awkward, and after hours upon hours, simply disturbing.

I know this game has more than it's share of bugs, annoyances, and nerfs; but it seems to me, the sound programmer doesn't have much to do right now, so how about fixing those percussion loop issues?!

Cheers,

Me

Hi Snowdog,

I'm not sure I'm hearing the same percussion break you are. I do sometimes hear percussion out of sync, but it's usually temporary, as if caused by lag. Do you hear this all the time, or do you notice any correlation between "skips" and high ping time or packet loss?

To my ear,the drum loops sound pretty seamless. I think I might hear a tiny gap in the SW3 drum loop, but most sound good to me. In fact, I like to play solo drums on Virtuoso, Star Wars I, Rock, and even Ceremonial. That said, I don't have the best ear in the world, so I'll listen again. Are others hearing this percussion break as well?

It's not off beat, and that's why it does that...

There's always a stop in the percussion and silence for like the last 32nd note of the loop before the next one starts. It would be nice if they left a high hat or ride bell or something with a sustained ring go over that last bit of the loop so there wasn't silence.

I hear this too exactly as described by Waho. Just wanted you to know you aren't crazy.

Really all the instruments do it, but a lot of the loops are such that there is an intended silence...not like flourish 6 or 7 of SW3 that has the beginning of a "climax" where you hold a note but then it just gets cut off by that silent end of the loop.

It's really noticeable with the fill/ommni because that's the rhythm section and not playing a melody.

Hmm use a different setting on your sound card maybe... I think the reverb in the "game" setting on my card covers any silence which may be there. I never noticed anything.

I'm a musician in real life, so I tend to be picky about these things

Most times when I'm listening to a musician, I can definitely hear a gap in between measures; and that gap also throws off the rhythm. Instead of being a smooth ONE one thousand TWO one thousand THREEone thousand FOUR one thousand, it sounds like there'sa slient stutter between each measure.

This happens when you use older versions ofWinamp to listens to several MP3 files in a row. It's caused by the small time it takes to unload the current file, load up the next file, and start playing it. I think winamp solved it by preloading the next file in the sequence. Anyone know if that's possible for them to do in SWG? (i'd expect a dev to know how this could work within SWG, not many others).

It actually IS a perfect rhythm, check it out with a metronome.

The problem is that the loops have to stop before the next loop starts...if you see what I mean...there's a tiny gap. if they just moved everything over to fill the gap THEN it would be off the perfect rhythm, so this is why that gap is there. They just need to make the loops fit together better.
