Thread: Curious which instrument sounds best with which song

While waiting for my class to be fixed I made a Master Musician\Entertainer\Dancer.

Now I have one of every instrument and am now playing with the various songs and various instruments.

Getting the macros made with flourishes to make each song better. In general, giving people a reason not to mute player music. Be entertaining, that kind of thing.

I even made a macro singing the lyric's to Weird Al's Yoda and The Saga begins.

So I came here looking for people posting their favorites combos of flourishes, etc. and I'm not finding any.

So I'm asking. Any tips? Opinions? Thanks.

My favorate song is folk and I think it sounds the best with the fanfar very moving

The mandolin's best song I think is star wars 1 defently writen for this song

The bandfill is awsome for ceramonial its unbelevable

the Kloo horn dose a very nice job on a lot of songs but not jazz

the mandolin stinks on SW2

I agree with the above.....although i get a kick out of the bwoop bwoop sounds on Jazz with a horn.

However, has anyone ever found a way to salvage the worst.....song......ever? ROCK

Hehe also Waltz on just the bandfill is one of the corniest ever. Sounds like the rhythm section of a two finger organ that used to be in everybody's basements in the 70's.

Ballad on solo narg is rather soothing if you play in the morning hours.

My tip is that the lyrics to Weird Al's songs are copyrighted.

I like the chin horn on Virtuoso, Jazz, Waltz, Ballad, Ceremonial, and Folk, but especially on Virtuoso. You can play solo chin on any of these tunes and sound decent, but Virtuoso makes you sound like you actually can play the sax.

I like the bandfill/ommni on pretty much every song. If I want to solo on bandfill, I usually pick an up-tempo number. Again, Virtuoso makes a good solo because it has a soft vibraphone melody built into the bandfill loops. Star Wars 1 and Rock both make good short drum-solo tunes -- just don't play too long. I don't solo bandfill/ommni on the slower tunes, as a general matter.

I like the nalargon on every tune, but I almost enjoy it most when it's got an electric keyboard sound, as in SW1, Rock, and SW3. Of course I love the piano sound on Virtuoso, but I don't love those loops solo; it works much better with a chin horn and ommni. I also like the steel-drum / xylophone sound on other tunes, but only briefly if soloing. Ceremonial is a nice nalargon solo, though.

I agree with Faydra, my favorite mando tune is SW1. But Ceremonial is fabulous on mando too, and even better with 2-4 mandos playing flourishes "in the round," with people following other people's flourishes. I wish we had more guitar sounds on other tunes, but I like the mando's string sound on most tunes. Not sure I love it on SW2, but I generally don't love SW2.

I heard the Mandovial on Ballad, and that rocked. The Mando also does good on Rock and SW1.

The Traz/Fanfar/etc(since the sound the same but for the Fizz I believe) is great with Ceremonial.

Haven't heard much of the nalargon...the majority of the times I hear it, it's only the base tune constantly, and I tend to tune out any instruments only playing the base, lol.

Copyrighting work gives the legal rightto an author, composer, playwright, publisher, or distributor the exclusive rights to publication, production, sale, or distribution of a literary, musical, dramatic, or artistic work. Well we would not be publishing anything, we would not be selling anything, we would not be distributing anything, where it seems to be grey is the production of something. Can you get in trouble for singing a song in your shower, or singing in your car, or on a street corner, or for that matter at a free concert you hold in your house. The point I am trying to make probably very unsuccessfully is that if you are doing it and NOT asking for some kind of revenue, is it against the copyright of said song? For instance Cover Bands play all sorts of copyrighted material and do not get in trouble or pay fees to the original bands. As long as the cover band does not say this is something they made up, they are doing no wrong. But I am not nor have ever claimed to be any kind of legal guy, I am just asking about/stating things I have seen in real life.

ChaoKuang, I think you're thinking of the bandfill/ommni box, not the nalargon. The bandfil/ommni are the base/drum instrument; the nalargon is a keyboard -- sometimes piano, sometimes electric keyboard, sometimes steel drum (that Caribbean sound).

My personal Opinion,

I don't want to see copyrighted songs or lyrics in game.

Yes you can be sued for performing a copyrighted song in a entertainment venue for money. This may or may not inclued this game, SOE makes money off it. And Cover bands do have to pay to perform copyrighted songs. Cover bands get sued all the time.

I am a big fan of the mandoviol myself. It sounds great on almost every song except sw1 and jazz... well and rock (most boring song imho).

Balld, folk and ceremonial sound great with the mandoviol: get 1 bandfill/ommni box, 1 chin kloo, 1 traz and 2 mandoviols and tips will start flowing. And don't use /startband. Let one mandoviol begin and then the ommni box, then chin kloo, then traz and finally the second mandoviol. Then find a nice combination of flourishes and let everyone solo one at a time. Don't play too long (5-8 minutes) then start a new song. No band plays the same song for 60 minutes

I don't particularly like the nalargon (maybe it should have an option of 2 different sounds hehe).

I don't mind playing any song but I really do not enjoy playing rock and sw2 (sw1 really isn't that bad once newbies learn to flourish)

The biggest rule of thumb for illegality is whether you either A) make money from the original artists work or B) whether you harm thier ability to make money from thier work. A coverband CAN get sued if they are making any money for playing the songs but usually won't, as the money they are making determines how much the author can recover, and the money is usually far less than is worth the effort of suing for (although they may get a cease and desist). The other type involves hurting the artists ability to make money with thier creation, which for example is why software/music/movie piracey is illegal even though the pirate almost never makes any money (in most comon cases).

That said,I can't really see anything illegal about using copywritten song lyrics in your gameplay any more than it would be illegal to recite the lyrics in person. The only exception would be some extreme case where you were doing so in game, making game cash which you in turn sold for enough real cash to be worth suing you over, so that's pretty slim.

I went to school for professional Illustration and so made it my business to get to know my rights as far as copyrights go. Copyrights are probably one of the most misunderstood and commonly broken laws around. Like in SWG real life artists have a hard time getting paid for the hard work they put in.
