Big thanks to all of those Starsider musicians and dancers who provided quotes:

Factor 5: Career Choice

I asked the following question to a cantina full of entertainers, “Who do you think would get better tips, an advanced musician or a newbie dancer?” Hands down the answer was the newbie dancer. Stevie of Starsider simply said, “Dancers always get better tips”. Certainly in the times I have been dancing and someone has asked for everyone to compare notes, the dancers were always getting many more tips and larger tips than the musicians.

I dunno, my master musician rakes in the tips when playing the nalargon and/or performing flame effects. Exotic dances are SO BORING, I don't know how anyone could stand it.

Well, I for one enjoy Exotic, but I agree with Hijo that I do quite well with tips. In fact, I made plenty of tips long before making Master Musician. And I've heard dancers complain about a lack of tips while I rake them in, to the point that I share my tips out of a sense of guilt. It used to be that my on-stage antics earned me tips; now I think it's just my fast healing.

And I can testify from experience that some dancers almost never get tips. I danced my way to Master Entertainer, and in all that time, my male dancer received three tips. As it happens, one was for 10,000 credits from a female character who was delighted to see a male dancer. But another was for one credit, so it balanced out. Also, those female dancers who do get tips also get plenty of rather crude attention. All in all, I don't think we Musicians have it so bad in the tip department.

I agree with NewJedi. My MM character isn't exactly hurting for tips, but even if I do get marginally less than a dancer (which is debatable), the difference is more than made up by my not being continually licked, groped, and commanded to do "private" dances.

Show me a dancer that isn't AFK and I'll show you one that MIGHT make more tips than me. And I'm not a master anything. I make up raps using the names of the people watching in the cantina. Got a fat wallet

I still think the bigger or fancier the instrument, the better the tips or the less clothes you wear...uhg...I've played at various places and there were time's when I would get tips and no one else would sadly. Would have figured the 'If you tip one, you tip all' would have an effect...but I do have to agree, people have to start giving tips to people who are not AFK for the people to realize that if you walk away from the computer for a long period of time, YOU STOP PLAYING OR DANCING. I've been to Coronet several time's and left earlier than I wanted to because half of the group was AFK and no one was talking.

I have no problem tipping Nostostagh. He can even be fully clothed, thats fine. So, yes I'll tip males.

When I partially tip a group its because I try to avoid tipping entertainers that might be afk.

I also try to tip females that are dressed "with class" slightly more than the exotic leotard crowd. I understand why thye dress that way, but as a female patron, I prefer class acts .. in either sex. I might be in the minority .. but we're here!

I get tipped just as well being a dancer or musician. I just talk to everyone and get to know them, I see people advancing and getting new things and I remark on it. Its sorta like asking parents how their kids are they start talking and don't stop. This will get you tips, group mates, survey spots, great deals on items, and a friend or two.

I'm glad to hear so many of you are doing well Amounts of tips received is of course dependent on a great number of factors. Hard work, greatinteraction, and personality will always win in the end
