Thread: Difference between fizz and fizzz? And between them and slitherhorn?

I just started a musician and I'm having a lot of fun with it (my character is a female wookiee, and she gets a surprising number of tips from those lonely wookiee guys out there). Anyway, I have a fizzz that sounds exactly like a slitherhorn to me. And is my fizzz actually a fizz? How do I tell the difference? I'm all confused.

If I recall correctly, the proper spelling is "fizzz," with three zzz's. But maybe the devs haven't spelled it consistently everywhere; I'll have to check.

In any case, the fizzz should most definitely sound and look different than a slitherhorn. On Star Wars I, for example, the fizzz sounds like a trumpet or brass section in a high register, whereas the slitherhorn slithers along down an octave or two. I hope you didn't buy a slitherhorn that was mis-labeled as a fizzz.

A slitherhorn is light grey witha bell on the bottom and a long thin mouthpiece coming off the top similar to a saxophone. A Fizz(z) is a plain cylinder, shorter, straight, black, with a little tiny mouthpiece.

They may sound similar, depending on the song, but you should definitely be able to hear a difference, especially on the flourishes. If someone renamed a slither as a fizz(z), when you examine it there should be a "base item name=a slitherhorn" .

I checked over lunch and I definitely have both a slitherhorn and a fizzz in my inventory. I must have been hearing someone else's slitherhorn in the band last night, because I can definitely hear a difference when I play them both one after the other now. The slitherhorn sounds woodwind-y while the fizzz sounds more brassy.

Anyway, I checked and in the skill tree for entertainer, music I gives the ability to play "fizz" while music II seems to give the ability to play +A Fizzz. I thought they were different instruments, but obviously they're both a fizzz and music II gives the ability to play it better, I guess.

Actually, Music I gives the ability to play a Fizz (or fizzz, whatever), Music II gives the schematic to build one.

Whoa! You mean I can build my own instruments!?! Cool! Or do I need another skill as adjunct to use the schematic?

As sciguy already explained, +Fizzz means you can build a Fizzz. That's the notation the game uses when it indicates you can craft something.

You might consider getting Novice Artisan to make your crafting a little easier at first. Once you have that, you can gather your own minerals and wood, make your own Weapon/General/Droid Crafting Tool, make your own Flora tool (for wood), and whatnot.

Alternatively, you can just buy the wood and metals on the market and be done with it.

No adjunct skills, you just need:

  • The instrument schematic, gained leveling in Musicianship as an entertainer and Music Tech as musician. You usually get the schematic a level or two after gaining the ability to play that instrument.

  • A crafting tool. You can get away with a generic tool for the first few, but will need a "Weapon, Droid, and General Item" one once you hit Novice musician.

  • Resources: soft wood, iron or steel, and aluminum are all you need stockpiled to make every instrument.
