When I post this, there's 3 threads on the top, all centering around ways to destroy buffbots. We can take matters into our own private hands, and wreak havok (or just hit cancel, like I did a few days back), but the devs made clear they have no intention of adding code to eliminate buffbots, regardless. Quite simply, they don't think they can stop it, so they won't bother. Instead, they want to "encourage at the keyboard play."
This means no pop-up boxes or tricks, because though these things may stop the in-game macro program, there are third party programs those guys with the buffbots will download the very next day, then be up and running again. On patch day.For the devs, with limited manpower, it's a losing battle.
Remember the limited manpower. There's not many resources for coding. They have code that asks for flourish combos, and acknowledge it when you do them properly. They want to reuse this code to encourage at the keyboard play, because it is efficient use of prgrammer bandwidith (as they put it). Perhaps there may be solutions that are cooler or better, but there's limited resources.
But this whole deal with players asking for flourishes? It could save us, turn everything around, honestly I believe this!
Now, some folks worry about possible exploits, being griefed by people sending you system messages. Well, to that I say /tells are more effective for spamming somebody, you could just /deny, there was recent flooding controls added, and I'll remind you... we are the kings and queens of system msg spam already!
In Thunderheart's thread, it almost feels like a programmer explained something fast to him in a meeting, he kinda got it, and quickly posted the thread. Let me try and elaborate, give you my "vision" of how this could all ultimately work out:
Leetdewd walks in the cantina, and sees a buffbot spamming the corner, who he's used to going to. But he's in a hurry, and knows real entertainers are better. Leetdewd spies a musician in front of him behind a nalragon. Like I said, he's in a hurry, and doesn't even feel like talking, his fingers don't even have time to type hello, what somebody's attacking a base or whatever. He goes up to the musician, stands in front of him, and types the new command, /requestbuff. The musician noticed Leetdewd standing there, and get's a system message saying Leetdewd requires flourishes 7, 4, 2. He sends leet a /tell, informing him he'll be happy to give him a fast buff, if he /tips 6000. Leetdewd tips. The musician does a quick /dump, hits the three flos, and Leetdewdgets his instantaneous buff. Like I said, Leetdewd was in a terrible hurry, and doesn't even say thank you, and books out of the cantina. If you weren't there? He'd still have had his precious buffbot. So everybody's happy!
With a system like this, I honestly see the buffbots dying out naturally! I understand the negative reactions to TH's post, but think of the possibilities? I will be harping on this for months,if I have to, cats,we need to come together, daddy-Os, I'm convinced. It was enough to get me to reactivate my account (after 2 days, lol).
I can honestly say I'm excited, because I finally see some hope! It is something that could be feasibly programmed, that may finally let us retake the cantinas.
First, must convincefellow entertainersthat throwing in a random flourish combo once in a while isn't all that bad.
Second, must relay to devs that they need to have this system affect buffs, not just vanilla healing. Make them realize the true problem is not the grinder but the buffbot.. Personally, I'd like to see a patron flo combo request coupled with T'ssolock would give the instant buff, to create interdependence between professions. But that would be more programming. I'll settlefor theseflo combos giving nearly instantaneous buffs.
Time is money folks, and most people would pay a LOT to avoid any time sink. We need this, we should demand this, not dismiss the in-concept.

Errrm, that doesn't work.
All a buffbot would do is spam:"For a quickbuff, request flourishes 2, 4, 7". Then the customer would request those flourishes and voila, buffbot is again equal to a ATK player

Sorry, need to read better. It could work if the system generates the flourishes.

Argh damn edit doesn't work, Thunderheart's thread, for those who haven't read it.
