Thread: A CSR's Response Regarding Buffbots

Here it is, in its entirety:

"CSR KevinC here. I'm afraid that running free 'buffbots' is not a violation of SOE's terms of service. If you would like to send your feedback to the development team regarding 'buffbots' and their effects on the game, you may do so by:

- using the Submit Feedback link on www.starwarsgalaxies.com. Although these messages do not receive a reply, all of them go to the development team and are used to resolve game issues and improve the overall SWG experience.

- posting of [sic] the forums on www.starwarsgalaxies.com. Hopefully your thread will be picked up by a game developer (all dev responses can be found on "dev tracker"). The development team members read the forums everyday [sic] for player questions, feedback and fresh ideas."

Now so far I haven't been able to find a "Submit Feedback" link on www.starwarsgalaxies.com. There's a "Contact Us" link, but no "Submit Feedback" link - at least nonethat I can see. I put in a question via the "Contact Us / Knowledge Base / Ask a Question" link. Hopefully that's what KevinC means by the "Submit Feedback" link.

I fear the buffbot menace will not get taken seriously until we've had yet another mass exodus of entertainers from the game. I'm not sure there are enough of us left anymoreto reallydo a 'mass exodus', but I guesswe could maybe do a "desultory wandering away".

Since June 2004, running one of the game's first completely nonviolent characters. Testing the limits of non-combat MMORPG play and trying to have fun into the bargain (although the developers make it difficult).

Combat is no longer compulsory.

So SOE won't do anything about it huh? Then here's what I say:

DON'T TIP BUFF-BOTS!!!

Heck I sure don't... when I see an AFK-Buff-Bot, I join the group, get buffed, disband and leave. Same went for Tumblers when I was grinding Medic. I never buffed Tumblers. Anyone can program a macro and tumble... why should I pay someone for putting no effort into what they are doing?

(o.O) --- Huh!? What happened?
(x.X) --- I'm dead
(^_^) --- LOL !!!

Those of us in the entertainer classes see cheapness every day. I mean there must be a bunch of folks going around with billions of credits, who are too cheap to tip an entertainer 100 creditsfor a heal, and who search out buffbots, and Image designers who will work purely for tips,so that they can get free buffs and stat changes. I guess that's how the rich keep their money. But what use is it to them if they don't spend it? It's not like they can take it with them when the servers finally shut down in a few years.

Well, it may be a violation of the ToS but I'd imagine Sony doesn't particularly care. Real Musicians who *care* about the profession are actually a tiny percentage of the overall game population. I'd bet dollars to donuts that if you polled most players, they'd prefer to use the services of a buffbot than look and/or wait around for a non-buffbot entertainer. It seems to me like simple market economics , all to simply maximize profit. A person paying an extra $15 for a buffbot won't hurt SoE's bottom line.

Players have the same type of greed, as Beery mentioned. Can't spare a measly 500 credits for an entertainer while they pay millions for stupid skill tapes that increase their by a few points.

As much as I hate to say it, we're screwed.

2 things

1) Kill the buffbot. Use a squad leader to /boostmorale to give them 1/1 action points or play with GETF by having a member of the opposing faction heal them.

2) i've bumped my master list of SOE contact information

Well that stops the buffbots, but it doesn't encourage live entertainers. Whenever you go to a buffbot, you're denying a real entertainer a tip. We must reward live entertainers as well asrefusing to paythe buffbots. Otherwisethe game willnot have any realentertainers leftat all, and then the developers will probably step in and force you to pay entertainers, just as they did with Image Designers.
