I have recently seen this topic pop up in numerous threads and I thought it deserved an open debate.

I have but one request. That we all stay mature in this debate and refrain from being too abusive to eachother.

I don't get what the debate is. You can buff in a player structure and even a camp. Is it battle fatigue you are wanting to debate?

No, I think he means us being given the same freedom of movement doctors are granted: a droid that will let us do all of the healing functions we're capable of anywhere.

I'd like that, and I think the "you're socializers, stay barefoot in your cantinas and make me a sandwich while you're at it" attitude is completely moronic. But it doesn't matter, because no one in development givesa rodent's derriere about performers.

I would be happy jsut to have a reliable place I could go to get buffs. Doctors hang out outside starports, rather than med centers with their droids. There was a debate on the scout forums that doctor droids have pretty much ruined the need for any kind of camp.

Entertainers can buff in a camp, so as long as there is a scout in a party, an entertainer can buff pretty much anywhere. True they can't buff outside the starport, but I think there is enough garbage outside the starport. I'd like to see things dispered a bit actually so its not such a mob scene. The hard part is actually finding people to buff, not so much where it is done.

I still think fixing the state of player cantinas being set to 'on' at server reset would go the furthest in fixing thatissue. If you could just look at the map and see * next to a player city cantina if someone has gone in and done /register, you know at least a Novice Musician or Dancer is there...that would help.

As far as being able to buff/heal anywhere with a droid like a medic/doc, to me that's a matter of equality with the other healing classesand being shown respect by the developers as something more than girlfriends using SWG as a chatroom.

Fixing /register would be a big help. I'd like to see us ask that in a Question one of these weeks. Echinacea, can you propose some language?

As for buffing outside cantinas, I wouldn't mind seeing some expansion of the list of places we can heal and buff, but I am personally against permitting us to buff anywhere anytime. The analogy to doctors isn't a perfect one; doctors have always played a much greater role in the combat field than entertainers have. And in any case some of the doctor's healing art is also limited by place; e.g., healing wounds.

Sorry about that...I wasn't completely awake when I made the post. What I did mean was buffing outside of cantinas with something like the aid of a droid. People have mentioned that we as Musicians/Dancers should get the same freedoms the Doctors get for buffing. Sorry for the lack of clarification.

I agree that we should have the same freedom to buff anywhere with a droid

Perhaps another idea to add to this - sorry to slide off topic a moment...

Currently the Search function only lists players on the planet you're currently on. What if there was a second criterion where you could extend that search throughout the known galaxy? The bazaar allows such search options, and it might just help bring service providers and those in need together.

Somewhere underneath the /register thing is the basic problem that isn't really solved yet... how can players, in an environment of interdependency, find one another? The existing systems aren't being used, and/or don't work properly. The key is to find ways that work better.

Back on topic...

I'm still not sure how I feel about buffing outside the cantinas. In our current environment, yes, it makes sense. The cantinas are largelya place of living hell, or they are devoid of signs of life. As such, many live players avoid them like the plague, and one way to reward ATK play and extend entertainer's capabilities and usefulnesswould be to allow mobile buffing. Still to consider though is that the devs wanted the cantinas to be the social hubs of the game, where players gathered to find one another. I agree that this system is just not working in today's game, but to go the design route of having buffing (and BF healing, as it's relevant in this thought) go mobile essentially admits defeat of the cantina social hub model.

Obviously something here has to give soon. Steps must be taken to eitherrevitalize cantinas as the fun, social hubs they were intended to be (most likely through some measure of stopping the ability to AFK), or extend the capabilities of entertainers so that the cantina is no longernecessary. The decision one way or the other, as I see it, makes a statement about the core concepts of the role of the social playstyle in SWG. That will be a decision made by the developers and their vision, but could well speak volumes about where our professions are headed.

/chuckle Trying to make me feel included and re-direct some of the ol' bitterness, eh? /hug Ricky I'll let it percolate.

The only places I know of that a doctor cannot heal wounds, even with a med droid out, are inside Cantinas/Hotels/Theater Guild Halls, on the Corvette and inside the Genosian Lab. I'd guess the DeathWatch Bunker is the same.

And I don't get why doctors should play a much greater role than entertainers, other than someone in development having a massive hate-on for bards. In which case, they never should have made the musical profession at all. It's a logical extension of the skills we're given.

I just think the developer in charge of Medic/Doctor had his/her/their head(s) on straight when it was done. It's always been one of the more stable profession sets.

ok i have to admit that i haven't read this thread so sorry if it is off topic... i think one neat thing toward buffing outside the normal places would be to link in the fame meter people have talked about and tiagra's idea and the jedi council. So basicly X number per server are the "council" in this case superstar performers, those can buff anywhere they go. They can loose the spot but while they have it they can be anywhere. For instance a great place would be the starport. Howver maybe in some spots its frowned upon to play in certain venues so the starport athority would fine you or something if you were to play there and get caught... just a thought but it would be cool
