Thread: HA HA HA
Rule 2: Be Friendly and Courteous
Everyone wants to have a positive experience while on the Forums - please make sure that you contribute to it. Please do not post anything harassing, threatening, abusive, lewd, or inflammatory. Flaming people, products, or organizations is never acceptable. Neither is trolling. Instead, be friendly, helpful, and supportive.
Rule 3: Be Relevant
Please stay on topic. These Forums are provided to enable members to help each other in sharing their passion for the game. Please refrain from discussing personal matters, abusing any company or product, or, in general, from posting in a manner unrelated to the direct purposes expected in the Forums.
man if they actually enforced this all the time there would be so few threads around this joint.

and yes that would mean this thread would be busted based on #2 at least
Think of it like this, the police can arrest you for driving over the speed limit, but most won't bother if your 3 mph over the limit. Rules like the two you mentioned are to make sure things don't get out of hand. This thread for example, won't be closed because while being off topic it is benign. If someone started a thread posting where certian players oremployees of SOE lived without these people's permission, they could shut it down in a milisecond. Do you see my point?
Yes i do and i know that it those types of gradiations that govern most things as well it should. I just have been overwhelmed by the bitter, mean spirited threads I have read here recently. If the game is making some people have to act that bitter it may be healthier for them to quit.
I had just read a thread that was locked for in essence calling out a player and flaming them which was good it should have been but they referenced the guidelines when locking it so i read them again and thought that there are so many threads that become flames to people that most threads would get locked especially in a few specific profession forums.
I concur with you on that there is a lot of flaming, bashing, and just general negativity, and itdoes get extremely badaround certain issues or forums. However, I've also seen topics that either started bad or were hijacked, change and become constructive or informative. Obviously, it doesn't always happen or even happen in the majority of cases. I suppose that's one of the reasons we have people (Hi Mods!), rather than hard-coded rules making the determination of what is a "valid" post and what isn't.
As for the sources of the flames, etc...; do what I do try to ignore them. The signal to noise ratio of the forums is sometimes frustrating, but there is nothing a single person can do other thanto avoid adding to problem.
