Thread: Are entertainers diseased?

I'm not aware of having anything contagious. That being said, I was disheartened this evening whilst performing on Dath. I decided after reading some posts earlier today about entertainers never being available in those places that I would go perform there, live. Obviously I am only one person and I can't be live 24/7, but I figured what the heck, I would show that there were real entertainers available. The tavern was empty, save for three afk performers (none of which were buff-bots). (Also, there were about 30 people outside the tavern that were not afk, and just chatting. I began playing; when someone would pop in, I would greet them immediately, ask how the hunt was going, small talk. I kept it to basics. I would even occaisionally shout an advertisement to the 30 plus people getting ready for hunts that I was giving buffs! The only entertainer offering buffs, no bots drowning me out, a relatively ideal commercial situation. Also I was the only master. Nothing. No one even responded to me in spatial. They would listen (not necessarily me) and chat to each other, but ignore my polite inqueries. Finally after half an hour and an /emote wondering where all the people who complain about entertainers not being available for them were, I receive a tell asking if I am buffing. Hmm, I had only mentioned it several times. The guy was polite though, and finally buff requests starting rolling in....as if they had to pick someone to approach me to see if it was safe! No one ever spoke to me in spatial, no matter what I asked, or said. Only tells requesting a place in line for buffs. I only stuck around for another 45 minutes, as I am not a very customer oriented player, and aside from no one speaking to me "out loud" all my customers were pleasent and happy to pay. I received no tips for standard BF/wound removal, or actual interaction. Sure, buffing is interaction, but its a far second from actual conversation. I will not let this deter me, as I love musician, and I will keep trying to prove through example what it means to enjoy being an entertainer, but I feel so not appreciated.

Can't say I've had this happen. The one time I tried buffing on Dath, I was actually waitingfor the restmy hunting group to shuttle in. Before I knew it, I had about 5 people waiting on buffs, and only managed to get 3 of them before I had to take off. Most of them were into chatting and I was sorry I couldn't stay longer.

Guess you just caught a tough crowd.

My worst experience, I believe, came from when I was buffing in my PA's cantina one night and one of my PA mates said he'd just wait for our resident AFK buffbot to log in because it offers both dance and music buffs.

Every time a personsays he prefersa buffbot, a musician somewhere dies.

The hologrind is almost over, which hopefully will put entertainment back into the hands of the entertainer. However, it might take some developer intervention to assist in bringing popularity to entertainment. And who knows what the "combat balance" might do to the entertainment professions.

If you guys (I retired for the reasons you are talking about) are ever fortunate enough to have pay-on-demand healing services as well as buffing services, that might help you gain some respect. But players are used to drive-by healing services that are free. They shuttle to the closest robot-healing facility, watch until healed (staring at the character stat screen the whole time), and run off to do whatever it is they were doing. They aren't used to paying; they aren't used to chatting. Do that enough times, and you forget that there might actually be a person behind that mind-bot.

The developers can make it more attractiveto interact with entertainers, but I am afraid that eventually once the hologrind is over it will be up to us players to make a change. I am not sure how that is going to happen.

I salute you for trying. Keep up the good fight.

I was buffing a guy a few weeks back, and another dude walked in, and kept asking to get invited to my group. I would answer him, like just another 30 sec on this guy, then I'll buff you. But it was like he simply missed my spatial replies, and kept asking to get in my group. I'm like, "No man, I ain't a bot, stop askin," and he'd keep asking, like he'd become trained to just ignore anything an entertainer says. The guy I was buffing just did a LOL and explained to the guy I was actually at the keyboard.

Woah... Maybe theguy was running a macro to get buffed while he went afk to do something else.

That would be a truely sad day...

Many people who are getting ready to hunt are grouped and in groupchat, they don't see anything in spatial. The spatial spam has gotten so bad that many people spend all thier time in either group, guild or combat chat and ignore anything in spatial, you're not being ignored just not being heard.

We have so many AFK entertainers, why should an AFK audience be surprising?

It may be as simple as a lot of folks including myself - spend our time in Group chat or Guild chat - which means we miss anything in spatial. I have bubbles turned off due to lag so it is difficult to get to be noticed sometimes.

Just a 3rd party observation.

I would send a tell to a few of the toons to let their party know buffs are available.

As one that doesn't want to add to spam I have been trying out a droid... I named it Oh-OrbIsBuffing and set patrol points around the outposts to let ir run around... I have no idea if it helps or not. Plus I do NOT hang out inside the cantina if I am not healing or buffing someone on those places. I stand outside where they can see me and play or dance or just talk to various people here and there.

I was entertaining on my own at the Smuggler outpost on Endor the otherday, people were walking in and staying for ages, complementing me on my performance. One chap even said i was the perfect entertainer and offered me a contract to be a resident athis citie's cantina.

Have to say they completely forgot the reason they were at Endor.

Thanks for the responses. It didn't occur to me that the people in the tavern might be only in group or guild chat, since there wasn't a lot of spam and I did hear the people outside talking. But it IS a possibility I did not consider.
