Forgive me, but I felt I must post a little write-up of PINK FLOYD's performance at the Live8 concert in London...
For me (And many others) Saturday Evening marked an amazing event.
Roger Waters and the rest of the (Post-Sid) Pink Floyd line-up performed together on-stage for the first time since their bitter parting in the early 80's.
For any fan it really was a great moment, but just as a person, it is touching to see people with those types of experiences put it behind them and pull together for a greater cause.
During the entire show, there was a message displayed often... "No more excuses".
While this message was talking about the greater financial powers of the world putting petty differences and greed aside for the greater good of the entire globe... I couldn't help but see the symoblism in Pink Floyd putting their differences behind them, as an example of unity.
Obviously, Pink Floyd is just a band that broke up (compared to Global Powers uniting for world hunger) but the symbolism IS there.
Anyhooo... all I really wanted to post was the set list that they performed (For anyone that missed it)...
unlike the rest of the bands, they had no introduction... other than the sound of a heart beat and the sound effects from the opening of Darkside of the Moon.
So, they opened up with Darkside's opening number...
"Breathe" with "Breath Reprise" blended right into it.
Then they played "Money". One of the biggest hits ever on the charts... also a problematic tune for Floyd in the past... it was this tune that arenas full of fans would impatiently be screaming for, while the band was trying to perform quieter songs... and eventually led to Waters flipping out and writing "The Wall".
However, given the meaning of this event, "Money" certainly was an appropriate song to play.
"Wish You Were Here"
It was pretty touching when Waters, introduced this song... first he said how emotional it was to be standing on-stage with his former band members, but then also pointed out that this song was for their other former bandmate "That won't be with us tonight", Sid Barret.
Wish You Were here was also really great because Roger Waters and David Gilmour finally sang together (During the last verse of the song).
For me that was just a special moment. Those tow voices, singin live together again...
Now, most performers only played about two to three songs, but of course Floyd had to play a little more...
"Comfortably Numb"
Gilmour's guitaring sure sounded great (As always) and while overall the set was the standard "Pop Hits" of Pink Floyd, it was a great set and performance. Hey... they were hits for a reason... they're all great songs.
So, I'll excuse them for not playing "Echoes"!
I don't know that any more reunion's will come from this... but it was great to have just this one moment.
Maybe Waters will use some of their talents on a future album of his, who knows...
All in all... it's been a great year of entertainment for me...
Revenge Of The Sith and the completion of the Star Wars Saga and Pink Floyd performing together... I've been spoiled.
May the force be with you...
And remember...
"...the feelings of the few...
ashes and diamonds,
foe and friend,
we all were equal...
in the end."

I must say that watching the videos of it showed Waters to be having a VERY good time up there with them. Gilmour looked his usual frowny self, hard to guage that guy.
And when Waters motioned for all of them to stand together with arms around each other was just incredible.
And I agree, when Waters and Gilmour sang together, it was really something special.

Yeah, you know it's incredible about Waters...
I saw him during his "Amused To Death" tour and he was just having a BALL.
He totally loved every bit of being on stange and playing for the crowd...
a complete turn-around from the way he was in the old days.
Hehe, and yeah, Gilmour is so tough to read. Don't know if he's a grumpy individual or if it's just a cold brittish exterrior.
It's a shame that our global networking and amazing technology didn't allow for everyone to easily watch the entire show in whatever country they wished.
Bottom line was, you had to have AOL other-wise you were stuck with your local television.
Fortunately my dear friend figured that out and we had it up and running nice and early. That coverage was completely uninterrupted and really great.
Even the English Celebrity MC's, inbetween acts, were quite fun to watch (Not that that is surprising).
I was raised watching English comedy shows though... and I knew most of these actors.
Really incredible show all-around.
Supposedly aol is going to have videos up and running after the 5th.
I know I have about 100 free aol discs lining the bottom of my garbage cans, so registering for it just to watch this is pretty simple... all you have to do is cancel it before the free period ends.
Might want to do that if they're showing it in it's entirety.
I'll post here later this week with what they have available.
May the force be with you.
