Once you reach master does it really matter what instrument you play to double someones stats? Can you play the worst instrument and still get a max buff?

the most you will ever be able to 'max' a buff is 100% at master. This of course does not take into account the 'musical mind enhancement' skill tapes that will allow you to bring this up to 125% if you can find and afford them. I generally use the hand held instruments of the Master Entertainer level and up for giving buffs. I am too nosy a person to have to be stuck on the floor instruments on which I am forced to keep my constant attention on. Realize that it is the amount of flourishes that you perform during the buff that dictate how fast the buff will take. Even if something happens where the duration of the buff gets limited through an action which causes the buff to continue to build, you will still give a 100% stat buff, even if it only lasts for 7 minutes. I generally run 4 flos every 10 seconds for a 5 minute buff.

I've never been certain about this. On the one hand, the devs specifically approved this language of my FAQ, sticki'ed in this forum:
Q.Does song or instrument choice affect the duration or powerof the targeted (/setperform) buff?
A. Yes. As with flourishing, song or instrument choice will affect the time at which you achieve maxium power and duration with the targeted buff. If you play a higher song or instrument, the time required to buff is, in theory, shorter.
Q. Does song or instrument choice affect the duration or power of the passive (grouped) buff?
A. Yes. A "higher" song or instrument speeds the rate at which the passive (grouped) buff is applied.
On the other hand, players in this forum tell me that instrument choice is irrelevant; all that matters is how often you flourish. The more flourishes you do, the more quickly you apply the buff. Me, I've always chosen a fairly "high" instrument and song just to be safe, and I've had trouble testing it because other variables affect the buff. But I've always refused to do speed buffs, whichsupposedly demonstrates that instrument choice is irrelevant, so I'm not the best person to ask.Yesterday, on TC, I buffed someone playing "Folk" on a slitherhorn, and it took a while. (Hehe, I felt like playing a slitherhorn. First time I'd played one in months.) But it always takes me a while, because I don't macro the buff.
