Hey guys,
First a disclaimer:
I know I am going to hologrind your beloved profession and do want to cause as little disturbance as possible and try not do it AFK, but then I read something interesting that would make it possible for me to the profession in my own house... maybe.
I read somewhere on this board that you could craft instruments to get musician XP. Is this really possible? Can I do it instead of playing music? I have just grinded 7 crafting profs and I am on a roll.
Is it possible? Or just one part of the tree? Is it really worth it? Or is playing in cantinas still better?

It is possible to do the music section of entertainer and 4/0/4/0 musician through crafting instruments, but you will still need to go to a cantina, theater, camp, or other place where you can heal people in order to get the entertainer and music healing lines. From what I hear, the most popular way to do this is to grind entertainer music through crafting and then afk in a cantina for the healing and upper levels of music. IMHO this is not the most efficient way through. I would suggest doing at least the entertainerlines of both music and healing ATK in a cantina, these levels go relatively fast, although you may have to hear Starwars 1 and Rock on horns a tad too much.
From there you should do Novice Musician and get 4/0/4/0 music through crafting (assuming that you didn't particularly like the ATK music stuff). You can then be in a much better position to gain healing experience because people are more likely to /listen to you when you have the title "Composer" or "Virtuoso" than when you have the title "Novice Musician."
So far as the best instruments to craft...
If you want to craft your way through entertainer, do slitherhorn all the way up through novice musician. Then begin crafting the fanfar and go up the techniques tree until you can make chid horns at 3/0/0/0, I believe. The chid horn should take you up to 4/0/4/0 pretty easily.
You're likely to get much better xp through crafting than you will through actually playing music, but you will have to play eventually in order to get the healing xp. I hope this helps you out, and may you enjoy your trip through our profession, especially if you decide to at least try doing it ATK.
WARNING: If you do choose to craft through all the music trees, you'll probably find the profession to be more boring because there will be no tangible acheivement when you make a level in healing like there is when you learn more in techniques or knowledge. Also, if you choose to go through music by playing music, you should go up the knowledge line before the technique line.

I can't imagine wanting to Master Musician without playing music. I mastered BE once; that was enough craft-grinding to last me a lifetime.

Oh, I was looking for this also! ![]()
Thank you Tralmek for you very informative answer. I will definitely do the entertainer ATK. I love to tryout all professions and it seems like fun. However, being ATK in a cantina filled with AFKers "please heal me", "INVITE ME (auto join)"messages is not my way of fun. It is a very viscous circle, since it will drive me to be afk also. But I am planning on going to Dant outpost since there is usually a lot of non AFK entertainers there (all dressed the same non the less) andI love talking too them and I ALWAYS tip them for being there. So hopefully not as much AFK. ![]()
